It's certainly become something I watch for in TV, just like I watch for (and also rarely find) instances of individuals with chronic illnesses being portrayed in any way other than 'jump-off point for some kind of emergency in a story'. It's one of those areas of everyday life which is largely invisible on TV, though whether that's due to demographics or assumptions; whether the occasional person who might have a chronic illness AND be a TV writer may be more interested in portraying their struggles in symbolic form (as would be possible in a fantasy-based show), I don't know...
