Thursday prompts: Job related
Meta prompts with the hope of inspiring nifty meta between now and next Thursday. (Or, y'know, whenever.) Late, 'cos I just finished watching Sweeney Todd. OoOooooh... yah. Like that.
So... job and career-related prompts:
Canon Jobs: Who has the most interesting career? Who changed careers suddenly, and what intrigued you about it? Whose career or job is ridiculous and obviously a contrived plot-device because canon requires a ____, or because that person needs an excuse to stick around and "this is my job" is enough of one? How do the jobs in canon affect the tone--we don't normally think of "barber and baker" as horrific careers! Are there jobs you find yourself interested in across several fandoms? ("Hotshot starship pilot" doesn't count.) Are "hero" and "damsel in distress" actual jobs? (Other than in Pratchett's work, that is.)
Careers In Fanfic: Talk about some fics that have a unique twist on character careers--maybe a unique AU/AR, or a "ten years later" story with a special twist. Do you like it when jobs are described in detail in fic, or do you think of that as pointless literary clutter? Do you like it only when it's an "interesting" job? Are there types of job-related details that make you click away from a story? Is there a job you'd love to see explored in a story and it's never been done--or it's never been done right?
Meta--Going Pro: Ever considered a career in writing? (Writing slash at work doesn't count.) If you have a career in writing, how does fandom connect to it? If you are fiercely protective of your amatuer status, would you consider non-fannish writing for money? If you got paid for each post you made, perhaps based on how many comments you received, how might that change how you write? There are lots of fanfic authors who are librarians or teachers or historians... are there common jobs among fan artists, or fan vidders? Do you make guesses about an author's (or artist's or vidder's) job, based on what you see in their fanworks?
As always, any of these are available; so is the general concept of "jobs in fandom," or any other meta topic. (Picky, we ain't. Got nothing to say about jobs per se, but want to talk about money in your canon of choice? Bring it on; we're happy to read.)
