- Barb's Journal - Going freelance - I would bet that the same basic argument gets rehashed in every other fan faction, as well - who's one of us, and who's one of them? Why don't they get out of the fandom and stop ruining it for us? In fandom you've gotta have a label, and for the most part those labels are based on pairings. But those pairing labels encompass a staggering variety of preferences....
- synecdochic: For a friend: - Person writes a fic in Fandom A. Works her ass off on it, gets lots of beta help to scrub over it, generally devotes lots of time and effort, etc. Posts fic. One comment on the fic, when it's been posted, is along the lines of "This reminds me an awful lot of Other Fic in Fandom B." The two fics deal with the same subject matter (it's a setup/theme that's less common in fandom) and have some superficial similarities, but aren't alike by a long shot: different words, different characters, different fandom, etc. (I don't know if Writer had read Other Fic or not before she'd written hers.) Commenter, essentially, has accused Writer of plagiarizing Other Fic. -
