  • [info]neekabe: [untitled] - So in my happy world, she divorces his ass, sues him for everything, and runs off to be awesome.

But because this is a hollywood movie, she instead stays happily married and he never gets called on his shit.

    Fucking world.

  • [info]angearia: Segregation and Miscommunication in our Fandom - But here is the problem with my experience: LJ is an extremely insular community where it's not easy to meet new fans. Yes, we all have a few communities we're members of and it's been a great way to meet people, but I don't know all of the communities in our fandom and it seems like the communities are places where we want to highlight involvement and special events because that's where people meet and come together.

  • [info]ladyofthelog: my thoughts about su_herald - It seems to me that the current dissatisfaction with su_herald stems from the conflicting views about how su_herald should operate and what content it should be cover. There seems to be some frustration with the moderators on this point, but frankly? They are doing their jobs. They are providing, as stated in the su_herald FAQ, "a nice small quantity of good fics to post and for you all to read"

  • [info]katekat1010: A matter of taste? - That being said, the Herald's whole 'we have a right to link to what we think is good and not to what we don't think is good' is possibly justifiable when you've got a thriving fandom that turns out 80 million fics and graphics every five minutes. Or if, you know, you've actually got people who are scouring the internets for "good" works and linking to them.

But frankly? Watching the daily lists of the Merlin fandom, Torchwood, and heck, even of the Kradam portion of the AI fandom? They don't leave anything off. And they've got WORLDS more crap to cover every day.

  • [info]furikku: In which I babble about Writing Minorities - What you do, you take the unlisted Third Option: you look for the places where nobody's really using variations. To use the ex-helpless female character there, maybe she's neither distressed damsel nor hardass amazon.Maybe she's, say, a Machiavellian princess who can't exactly defend herself physically from the Bad Guy's armored supersoldiers, but who spends her time thinking up schemes to avoid ever having them near her. Maybe she's plotting to usurp the Bad Guy and take his shit. Maybe your Black voudun lady also has a PhD in religious studies and can recite details about how the lwa she serves developed in cultures. Maybe your gangsta hoodlum is a hardass Asian gal who doesn't know kung fu but can beat you down with a broken bottle. Maybe your superpowered person in a wheelchair has elemental fire powers, rather than super brain stuff. Maybe your romantic interest is a girl that was born in a guy's body, and the hero (or heroine) is OK with that because true love doesn't give a shit. -

  • [Bad username: quinfirefrorefiddle]: You gave us something to talk about.... - And I figure that any and all of these questions are going to lead to conversations about who linkspam and metafandom are linking to, eventually. -

  • [info]zvi: [in podficmeta] Tagging - What kind of metadata/id4 tags do you guys wish podficcers would use? Are you retagging stuff after you download? If you podfic, what tagging scheme do you use? -

  • [info]damned_colonial: Notes toward an Alternate History of the 18th century in England - I want to write DADT fic, but all my military fandoms are 200 years too early. Which obviously means it's time for an alternate history, right? -

  • the_shoshanna: signal boost: Dreamwidth again (still) under attack - if you wondered whether Dreamwidth really could be trusted to mean all those hifalutin' pronouncements in their guiding principles, if you doubted whether their commitment to diversity was worth the electrons it was printed on, if you harbored concerns that the ghost of LiveJournal Abuse was haunting the halls of Dreamwidth, if you wanted to know whether they would really put their money where their mouth was -- you have your answer. -

  • [info]cesperanza: Party like it's 1993, Y'all. - Whatever did we do without the internet and livejournal and metafandom? The same fucking thing as it turns out. -

  • melannen: So, a long, long time ago, before I had - Someone who has probably spent his entire adult life in an academic world, where everybody has institutional support that lets them access things like ridiculously expensive subscription journals, is coming in to *my* world, where everybody works for nothing and publishes for the joy of sharing freely, and dragging our work back behind the wall with him, where we can't touch it anymore. -
