Hurt/Comfort - Hurt/comfort is a fan fiction genre that involves the

physical pain or emotional distress of one character, who is cared for by

another character. The injury, sickness or other kind of hurt allows an

exploration of the characters and their relationship.

1. INJURY. You've been injured. Broken bones or bleeding out or maybe just a tiny little papercut. The choice is yours.
2. SICKNESS. You're sick and laid up in bed, at home or in a hospital. The severity is up to you.
3. FEAR/ANXIETY. Something is happening and you're scared beyond belief.
4. LOSS OF SENSES. Sight, touch, taste, hearing, smell, etc. You've lost some important sense or ability and now you're left to deal with it.
5. DESPAIR. Nothing is good or right anymore and you can't shake the depression. Maybe that friend of yours can help though...
6. BREAKUP. You've been dumped. You need someone to comfort you, possibly by the one who dumped you.
7. MAKE UP. Fight or break up, it's time to makeup.
8. RESCUED. You've just been held captive and/or tortured for however long and finally, someone has come to the rescue.
9. BAD ROMANCE. Fight, cheated on, abused, whatever the case is, someone else can clearly see you need comfort from someone who isn't your terrible lover tonight.
10. LOSS. You've experience a loss of some kind and need help getting through it.
11. INSANITY. You're seeing things that aren't really there, hearing voices, or you're just convinced you're at your wit's end finally and you're going to crack. Maybe someone can give you a helping hand.
12. TIRED. You've had a heard life recently and you're just worn too thin to really care anymore. There's no fight left in you anymore. Can someone help change your mind?
13. ADDICTION. Drugs, alcohol, sex, gambling, or any other type of addiction has got you in its grasp. First time or relapse. Will someone be able to save you?
14. INSOMNIA. You can't sleep anymore, no matter how hard you try. Maybe someone can give you company.
15. NIGHTMARES. Or, on the other end of the spectrum, you can't sleep without gruesome, horrible nightmares. Either someone is stuck in your dream with you, witnessing it or they're just waking you up, soothing you out of it.
16. BLACKMAIL. You've been caught doing something you shouldn't and you were blackmailed because of it
17. SEPARATION. You're going to be separated for awhile or were separated for a long time. Either make up for lost time or try to spend every last moment together.
18. BETRAYED. You've been betrayed in some way. Can someone help you through it?
19. STRANDED. You've been stranded somewhere remote, with no help of anyone finding you for awhile. Can you survive this together?
20. SINS. You're feeling the weight of your sins and guilt clearer than ever. Can someone give you absolution or lessen the ache any?
21. SECRET. It's difficult having to keep that secret of yours, be it a relationship or something you just don't want to share with anybody else. Maybe it's okay to talk about it now though...
22. ADDITION. Babies should be joyous things unless you're in a situation where you know you won't be able to care for them. Either you've adopted or found out you're pregnant.
23. WILDCARD. Just as it says, make your own!

	Dean woke up, shuffling to the kitchen. He couldn't sleep. He'd been out for maybe twenty minutes. Dean ran a hand along his face, and got a beer, shuffling through his pain meds, forgetting that Stiles was home. This whole kid thing was so weird. What was he going to do with that? Marc was really good at screwing up. He was even better at getting in fights. Unfortunately, the one he got into was at the regular moon party with Cathal. He said a stupid comment without thinking, hurt Cath's feelings, and didn't apologize immediately like he should have.

It took an outside source to tell him this. It's why he's dragging his feet and avoiding the other around the house instead of bringing it up to fix things. He just wants to make sure he doesn't make things worse.

Grumbling to himself, he finally gives in. Not hearing the beta talk to him is painful. "I'm sorry," he says, blocking Cathal's path in the narrow hallway to the kitchen.

	It wasn't the first time he'd heard idiot remarks, and at this point Cath was able to laugh them off with the others. Mostly, anyway. But when jokes were from your own mate? It was a bit harder. "Yes," Marc sighed. "I don't think before I open my big fucking mouth." He didn't even have a good excuse like alcohol since it had been before a normal full moon.

As much as he wanted to just manhandle Cathal into a hug, maybe drag him off to the bedroom for make up and I'm sorry sex; Marc wasn't going to touch him yet. He was not looking to get a swipe because he wasn't fully thinking with his head.

"Coul' 'ave tol' ye tha'." He offered with a one sided shrug, trying to look everywhere but at him. Usually it was funny, but sometimes in times like this it was awful.

Sighing, he reached up to rub his face, peeking at Marc through his fingers and frowning behind his hands a moment. Part of him wanting to forgive the older man, his wolf wanting nothing more then to snuggle against his alpha and the like.

"How would you like me to make it up to you?" That was the obvious next step. But with Cath things weren't the same as they might have been before.

In his only other relationship when he screwed up, he's just take Elisabeth out and let her shop or let her go out and make him to dress in whatever insane high fashion outfit she demanded.

It had been long enough that Ollie thought that he was okay, most of the time, in public, but right now? He wasn't feeling that at all. All of that mess in Gotham with the Court of the Owls being over with, getting away from his uncle, who'd ended up in Arkham, thanks to him supporting them, and gaining his purpos, along with finding Dinah had all seemed to help, but sometimes...

Sometimes it all came back all at once. As his parents' death approached its first aniversary, it'd all started to be...a lot. While he wasn't trying to capture anyone's attention, it was clear to anyone who saw the teenager that something was wrong here. So wrong that he didn't really notice when he tripped and went sprawling into a puddle left behind by a recent rain. Sighing deeply, Ollie looked at the puddle and the people around him but made no effort to rise just yet. Hey, could he sink into it maybe? Anyone here have any way to make that happen?

"For my next trip," He muttered finally, looking up at the crowd, making eye contact with the guy who looked about his age, "I'll die of embarrassment."

It wasn't his first time visiting the city. Mostly Clark had wanted, needed, to put distance between his parents and his friends. All of whom were trying to get the red Kryptonite off him to make him go back to normal. He didn't want to be normal, not when he felt this good.

And the city was only one quick motorcycle ride away after all.

The other falling had nabbed his attention first as Clark came to a stop. Smirking in amusement but reaching to help him up regardless. "Could be worse." He teased with another small chuckle.

Ollie had to agree with that right there. Or, well, half agree with it, maybe. "Oh, I know worse. " He agreed, the wry half smile crossing his face almost proof of his firsthand knowledge of that. "Hell, it's GOTHAM. I'm getting the idea it's drawn to sad and disturbing."

And this guy looked just like the assholes from school, so smug about their parents' status that they didn't bother with anything else. Only...it only went as far as LOOKS. Ollie was sure. This guy was cute like them, but he was more...genuine maybe?

"But everybody here's got a sad story. For your sake, I'm going to hope you're visiting and don't have sad stories to share."

"It sure looks sad and depressed, anyway." He agreed, tossing a glance around. The skyscrapers and dull colored buildings added a grim atmosphere to the city. Which is why he'd chosen it over the sunny and welcoming Metropolis. Easier to hide out from his dad, and his friends.

That and no one knew him here.

"Visiting. Sure. Might stay a while." He added, moving to stretch out a hand and help his new 'friend' up. "Clark." He added, gaze gleaming with amusement.

"Would you believe this is better?" Ollie waved his hand around. "I don't know what you've heard about the dystopian nightmare but...I moved into that a few months ago. This is finding our feet. Maybe the place is MEANT to be depressing." He allowed, with a little shrug.

"I figure I fit in, even with stuff looking up And you...no one ends up here on a whim, do they?"

"You mean there was a worse?" He raised an eyebrow, mocking astonishment as he cast a quick glance around. Though it was clearly a joke as he shrugged as well. Back home the only things people heard about Gotham was it was a city full of weirdos and the rich. Part of had always thought Lex would have lived there in a heartbeat if he'd been allowed.

"I guess not." He agreed with a small chuckle. "Mind showing the new guy around?"

He's a mess. He has constant nightmares of that thing coming back and lurking inside of him, he can't control his shift, his hands shake, he's scared to look over his shoulder...

Stiles is skipping school again. Third day in a row. He also has deep bags under his eyes and he doesn't want his dad to know he's skipping again. It's why Stiles is banging on the loft door, half leaning against it. "Please, I just need a place to hide for an hour," he mumbles weakly. Stiles knows Derek will hear him because he can hear the older wolf moving around inside.

It had been...an ordeal the last few days. The last week alone, even. Thankfully the small group opting for normal things like school and whatever else teenagers liked to do. Derek had, for once, taking the small moments to bask in the quiet. And maybe flip idly through a well worn book.

At least Stiles came pounding on his door. Frowning at first, he moved to peer out at the human. For once not huffing at the younger man and gesturing him to come in. "Are you ok? What happened now?"

Shaking his head, Stiles pushed himself upright and moved inside. He figured Derek noticed he wasn't so animated, so full of energy. There wasn't really any hiding that. But did he look that bad?

"I'm fine," he lied. "Just had a test I wasn't ready for." Stiles couldn't help himself when he sat on Derek's couch. It was soft, warm. He immediately dipped over onto his side and curled into a ball. "Can we... Just pretend I'm not here. I won't stay long."

He'd be lying if he said he wasn't worried. Of course he was worried about all of the pack, but Stiles especially. Frown deepening as he watched the other stumble to the couch.

Of course he'd noticed. The human was always moving or talking, even in the face of extreme danger. The lack of energy, or snark, only worried him more. Staying quiet for a moment, Derek moved. Carefully draping a small blanket over Stiles. Not calling him out on his obvious lie, but not willing to ignore him either. "You can tell me whats really wrong, you know." He rumbled

Derek Hale showing a hint of a soft side? Stiles was surprised. Especially since he was on the receiving end. He'd heard from Isaac that the guy could be a big softie, but he didn't believe him before now.

"Thanks. I'm trying not to be a burden. Already done that plenty." Sure, it had been a week since everything, give or take, but he couldn't shake his old shadow. "What were you reading?" Yes, Stiles was going to try to change the subject. There was something he was good at.

The other was in pain. Emotional pain if not physical pain, so Derek saw no reason to be his normal huffy standoffish self. Not after everything Stiles had been through because of that creature.

"I don't think you're a burden." He offered in a gentle tone. His words were, somewhat, true. An annoyance sometimes, sure. But a burden? No. Still, he didn't push and at the question, settled more firmly next to the human. Reaching for the book to let him look silently.

Stile stifled a laugh. He never thought he'd hear Derek say he wasn't a burden. It seemed like the last thing he'd say, honestly. Or maybe he'd just hallucinated him saying it. That thought had Stiles wondering if he was hallucinating everything though and that was a dangerous path to follow. He didn't want to slip into it again and end up questioning everything.

Trying to distract his mind, he lifted his head enough to glance at the book. He stared at it for a moment before speaking.

"I don't want to feel like this forever. What if it doesn't go away." Because why not just admit what's going on. Maybe Stiles could get lucky and he really would be imagining this whole thing and he was actually hauled off to Eichen House after the Nogitsune. Derek could just be a pillow he was talking at.

Just because he got huffy and frustrated with the human, didn't mean he thought of the younger as a burden, really.

Falling silent at his words a moment, more thinking and worried then trying to sway him into that line of thinking. "Pain, even emotional and mental pain, heals differently then physical.' He offered gently, reaching to gently, awkwardly, rub the youngers back carefully.
