He huffed. "Don't be ridiculous. I'm not going to stab you." But Jim pauses, gaze wandering and sighing. "Unless you did something to deserve it but even then it'd be questionable."
Still, his answer had given Jim maybe some insight. He imagined he could understand. Sherrinford just wanted more from him. Now he just had to figure out if he could do more and what more entailed. "So then...let's play hypothetical. Retirement. Me. You, if you're allowed. But no marriage. No children..." He trails off, a pointed look and hoping Sherrinford to fill in the blank.
