It started with a rumble. Then a sudden crack, and the ground-shaking thump of hundred of pounds of rock falling from the ceiling at once. Homes were crushed under the force, and as dust obscuring the air in the tunnels swirled, it became clear that those living deepest in the cave system were completely walled off.
Air becomes the first concern for those trapped. Without knowledge of how deep the wall is, apparition into the sealed-off zone is impossible. Attempts to magically bring the rocks back to their original home in the roof end with the unstable structure falling yet again, clouding up the air and making everyone cough. Those closest begin digging at the rock with hands and wands, making little visible progress. A relay of sorts begins to stretch the length of their home, rocks levitated to where they will be out of the way. Healers arriving on the scene can treat those injured on this side of the wall but have hours left to wait before they can reach those on the other side.
By midnight, cave lights can begin to be seen through the rocks and those digging have a renewed sense of purpose and energy. Gradually the hole widens, giving rescue workers a way in and victims a way out.
Nearly twelve hours later, 6 am rolls around with three lists posted in the square. 86% of the cave inhabitants are on the first, naming those known to be safe (if injured). 12% make it to the second, a list of the confirmed dead. And the third lists the 2% of missing persons, their status unknown.
