As the dew drops settled on the grass at Berkeley Castle, the members of the military were setting up for battle in the surrounding woods. Masks on against the fog, emergency portkeys to the Healers tent set up in the nearby Forest of Dean were distributed to each soldier. With the sun rising, the attack began with the aerialists, foot soldiers stationed within the courtyard to begin theirs as the residents of the castle and their 'guests' poured out and started to flee and fight.
Despite the surprise nature of the attack, the residents of the castle had a puzzling greater number than expected as well as the home advantage, and the leaders called for a retreat as they faced overwhelming losses. The directive had been to capture any they could for questioning, but in the end they were left empty-handed and licking their wounds. Each conscious soldier was debriefed on what they had seen before being relinquished to the cavern hospital.
