Eomer flashed Lothiriel a loving smile, it lingered longer than it normally would when they were in the company of others and it remained on his face as he glanced down to the little girl that had him held so firmly. The little girl blinked slightly when Lothiriel lowered herself and clung more firmly to that which she saw as safety, she didn’t want the pretty lady to have her belly cut open, but the scene kept playing in front of the poor child’s eyes, so she turned her face and buried it into Eomer’s legs. In time she would come around, but it would take time, considering what she had been through. When Lothiriel went to Wedia, Eomer picked the little one up, and walked to where the little twins lay. He ran his fingers softly through their tangled locks and looked thoughtfully at the pair of them. They were feverish, but not overly so, so their need to sleep continually was still bothering him. Though children really dealt with trauma in different ways, and this seemed to be the way the twins were dealing with such.
The little girl now she was picked up, watched Lothiriel intensely, but still didn’t seem to respond. Eomer finally picked up on such and walked closer, “this is my wife little one. She too will make sure you are safe.”
Whether it was his words or something else, the child’s bottom lip started to quiver and huge tears flooded her large anguished eyes, they began to trickle slowly down her face, as she still stared at Lothiriel and the first words she had said since Eomer and Deorwine had found her was spoken. Turning her head to Eomer she said in a frail, scratchy little voice, “don’t let them hurt momma.” Then she buried her head into his neck and began to sob once more. Little hands scratching and gripping at the leather armour he wore, and her body shaking. No more sounds came from her though even her sobbing was silent.
The baby however was another matter, he gazed up at Lothiriel and was blowing bubbles out of his mouth, yes he was old enough he should be doing something other than such, but he seemed quite happy to be doing such. Then as if the gods had timed it all, he began with the “dada dada dada,” reaching his arms out towards Eomer his fingers flexing and pinching at the air.
