Actually now Eomer had calmed, he saw the woman had merely talked out of fear for her ‘child’ yes he knew she had basically been mother to Lothiriel so as she turned to leave he made her pause for but a moment. “Wedia, I have need of an honest person in amongst my elders, think carefully before you decline what I am about to request of you. Rohan has a long history, deeply entwined with powerful and strong women, there are none on my council of Elders, I would have you take such a place. I know you are not of Rohan, I know you are like a mother to my beloved Queen, but old men do not always see that a young woman should be treated with as much respect as they themselves. I know ‘tis a lot to ask, which is why I do not wish for answer at least for some time, but please spend time thinking this offer over?”
As soon as he’d finished talking however, the old men were back, and with them was two of the Dol Amroth ambassadors. A sigh passed Eomer’s lips, as he said to Wedia, “the children are to be housed in the King’s chambers, I trust you to be as good a mother to them as you have been to my Queen.”
With that, Deorwine escorted Wedia from the War room, and stood on guard outside. Not that he believed anyone would wish to enter due to what he hoped was to be going on behind the closed door.
A weasel-like looking man named Sir Frederick and another named Lord Dormand had came on behalf of the Dol Amroth party the pair of them had sweaty brows and Eomer expected sweaty hands too. “So you are back,” Eomer stated looking first at the old men. “Very well, do you have an answer?” Obviously they didn’t and they changed the subject the moment Eomer finished talking. They brought up treaty rights, trading agreements and the bridal promises.
Eomer halted them as they began, “Sir Frederick do you dare threaten a King of Rohan with trade agreements? I promise you, that it will look worse for Dol Amroth, Rohan needs no trade routes with your country sir, and I have King Aragorn of Gondor’s sworn word for rights to trade in his lands. Do not take us of Rohan for fools merely because we do not dress like stuffed birds and prance around like fellows that would rather bed with other fellows.”
Sir Thomas had not shown his face, and wouldn’t until his men reported back to him, as to just how easy or difficult the king would prove to be to manipulate. He was proving to be considerably worse than they had suspected, then the whole ‘the Queen is not being treated correctly’ nonsense started up.
To which the Rohan elders began with talk of other women and if the Queen was too frail and fragile to produce an heir then it was simply Dol Amroth’s lot to remove her and if she could produce such, then Mistresses should be found.
Deorwine could not help hearing that and burst out in laughter in the outer hallway.
Eomer, just looked at them all in a disgusted manner. “The Queen is not a horse to be talked about in such ways, and mistresses? We are all men, but no man can say he has never had a mistress so I shall not even attempt to way lay such nonsense. Yet I shall say, if the Queen so wishes, then the Queen is the one that shall appoint such.”
The Dol Amroth ambassadors, had been the one to bring the queen into this, and they were astounded at what Eomer had said. “The Queen should do no such thing, the Queen should be given leave and be allowed to return home, as it is her inner most wish to do so, and then she shall allow you to have as many mistresses as you so wish Sir, for your rough handling of her has made her weak and nauseous.”
