Who: Eomer - Narrative What: Riding out, proclamation made about Girls now being allowed to train to be Riders for the Mark. When: The morning of the day Lothiriel has asked Theodrake about learning to use the sword. Where: Various.
As Lothiriel was busily trying to be, whatever the councillors believed a good queen should be, Eomer was busily doing the opposite. Well not the complete opposite, but he had refused to be a sit at home in the palace kind of king. He was young, he was use to leading his men and he had no intention of stopping doing such. The elders knew what they were doing as far as running all the trade and so forth with other nations was concerned and where they seemed intent to try and bore Eomer with the ins and outs of what they were doing, he merely left them standing.
It was he and his men’s turn to watch the borders and that was exactly what Eomer intended to do. For why be a king if you did no work but shuffling paper from one place to another? His number was down one, as Theodrake was now the Queen’s champion, which meant, when they returned from their duty, the whole lot of them would go about recruiting someone else to take his place. Not something that would be taken lightly, but not something they truly had time to deal with before they were to ride out and take their places, so those that had been riding the borders for the weeks previous could come home, spend time with their families before they were due to ride out and once more take over yet again.
The elders tried the argument that peace was now upon them, that there was no longer any need for any of the riders to be gone for such long periods at a time, even if they did only go for a week then return for others to take their places, really they only wished that the King would not be gone for such periods of time, because they were old, they were tired and they would have to wait for documents that he and only he could sign, which would take longer considering they’d need to send a messenger to find him, and that may well take as long as it take for him to actually return.
There actually was no talking Eomer out of things though, not even when they brought up the queen, that would she wish to be left for such a long period on her own. It was week, of which Eomer reminded them, he also reminded them that every other man under his command who had a wife, also had to face the time apart, and the elders, well they realized they were attempting to fight a battle they would never win. To led by example seemed to be Eomer’s motto, and do not expect another to do that which you would not willingly do yourself.
He also before he left, made a huge public proclamation, that from here on out, girls would be allowed to train to be riders, that those found preventing such from happening would be severely punished. Though really what would that entail? No one really knew, but no one actually wanted to find out either.
