Question of the Week
I knew I was forgetting something yesterday!
What is your character's hometown? What made you pick where your character was from?

Anyone who was around in </a></b></a>magic_war might remember that Susan lived in Gloucestershire back then. I decided to place her in Essex this time round after reading the Classlist Essay over at the Lexicon which said that Bones is a common surname in that county. (There were other reasons too - like the fact that MD!Susan is less of a country girl.) I picked out the village of Writtle as her hometown, as I still wanted her to live in a big house just outside a village. |

Romilda lives in Manchester! I have three reasons for this: 1) I've always seen her as a northern lass. 2) I wanted her to live in a big city. 3) I have family in Manchester so it's more familiar to me than, say, Leeds or Liverpool. |

Draco was easy because his home is canon - Malfoy Manor in Wiltshire. I have no idea why JKR picked Wiltshire, but it works for me. :) |

Sylvie is from Ottery St Catchpole down in Devon because it's canon. Mwah! |

Hannah lives in the Lake District of Cumbria, and I'm pretty sure that's what the Classlist said was probable. I put her in Ambleside because when I googled the Lake District I liked what I read about Ambleside? I don't remember. I did base one of her early journal entries on what I read though, the one where she and her primary school friends went out on a lake for the afternoon. |

Cho lives in Manchester... and she's thrilled to find out she lives so near Romilda. To be honest, I don't remember why I chose Manchester other than I wanted her to be in a big city. The place I pick for my characters are more or less random. xD (Reply to this) (Thread) |

Haha, she shouldn't be so dismayed! It's a big city, after all. (Reply to this) (Parent) |

I haven't placed Alicia yet, so I'll do so now. I made her Patronus a raccoon, so she pretty much has to live in Germany because it'd be weird to have a Patronus that was an animal you'd never even seen before. I really don't know much about Germany (which is sad considering I'm half German), but by surfing Wikipedia I have decided that Alicia will live in Tastungen. (Reply to this) (Thread) |

Marietta is from wizarding London. It's a bit boring, but I think it makes sense what with the fact that both her parents worked at the Ministry, and sure, with Floo and Apparition it's easy to travel the distances, but I think they would have wanted to be close by. Also, it's just convenient. I'm sure there are side streets off Diagon Alley - I think I named the street she's on Wickham Way? And I think it's probably off Diagon so she's just in the middle of everything. Plus since Stacey wasn't from London, I figured I could have a London character. |

Stacey's from Nottingham. She was my first character and way back in 2004 when I started playing her, it seemed like everyone's characters were from London and so I didn't want to fall into the stereotype (like I said in Mare's reply, it was only because I had a non-London character that I felt comfortable putting Mare in the L town). I chose Nottingham for a couple reasons. I didn't want her in southern England, and while it's not exactly north, it's not south, either. Also - Robin Hood! I liked the idea of her growing up not too far from Sherwood Forest and being able to picture all the places in the stories. I just wish I could find a sound byte of a Nottingham accent so I know what she sounds like. (Reply to this) (Thread) |

Voila! It's an old woman speaking, but it might be helpful? (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread) |

Fred lives in Ottery St, Catchpole because it's canon. Simple. =) And all my Thomas icons have disappeared except for this one. How odd. |

For </a></b></a>epilogs I asid Morag lives in Hampshire so I'll stick with that. I don't remember why I chose it but I think it had something to do with it being on the coast. It also has higher than average sunshine so that could fit with the meaning of Morag's name (embracer of the sun). Yeah, I'm just making this up now. |

I chose Sussex for Parvati, again I have no idea why. I'm really not at all familiar with England since I haven't been there since I was about 6 or something so yeah. Apparently the people in Sussex are strong willed which Parvati can be at times. It's also a very hot palce which could have helped her parents choose this location as they were used to hot weather in India. Again, it was just me randomly picking a town. |

She's a Londoner. Mostly because her father is a beefeater and all of that jazz. I'm too lazy to really go deeper into discussion at the moment. |
