Newly available characters and new canon forthcoming
Activity check complete -- we have some characters opening up, so we'll have another round of promo ads going out this afternoon to see if we can recast Brittany and Quinn (and Mike, Tina, Puck, Mercedes, Artie...) Plotlines with these characters can be assumed to be back to canon defaults, at least until we get new players and anyone with prior plot can discuss what to keep and what to toss with them.
With new episodes starting up next week, I thought it might be a good time to clarify how new episode canon and in-game timelines work, both for our new members and our veterans. It's been kind of a free-for-all so far, and I've been approached for clarification, so hopefully this will make sense and work for everyone involved.
The main confusion I've seen has been how to time canon events in game -- there's been folks who start posting about show canon immediately, and some who drag it out over the week until the next ep. Playing an episode Tuesday-Tuesday isn't very efficient, though, since it's not a standard school week, and assumes that everyone watches the eps live and immediately plots out character interactions that night. So here's the solution I'm proposing, and if anyone has any suggestions or additions, feel free to chime in. (I've clipped this directly from our FAQ and edited it, so hopefully it makes sense.)
• How will you deal with new show canon when season 3 episodes air?
After each new episode, a discussion post will be opened in mckinley_ooc. This post will be where players can discuss events in the episode and decide which elements to keep and what to ignore for the purposes of the game. Episode discussion posts also serve as a place to plan out storylines with other characters, whether those storylines cover show canon, or original plotlines. And, of course, they provide a place to discuss/flail/squee about the episodes with other like-minded Gleeks, :) Deviations from canon ARE allowed, and will be cataloged on our Plotlines page for future reference.
For the sake of plotting, all events in a given episode will play out during the following week; in other words, players will have Wednesday-Saturday to watch the episode, digest, and discuss how to approach it and what canon to keep. Those plotlines become fair game for play starting the following Sunday (roughly), and will play out over the next week. This is designed to give everyone ample planning/coordination time, and on those weeks when we have another episode the next Tuesday, it might even help players pepper their interactions with foreshadowing for the following week. Within this one week timeline, events on the show can play out as fast or as slow as players choose; just be sure to coordinate with other players to make sure you're all on the same page. Game-wide plot points will be timed by the mods and announced in the discussion posts, for everyone to reference and work around. If there are any questions about timing, contact us and we'll be glad to clarify!
