WHO: Brittany and Tina
WHAT: Private Rocky Horror rehearsal
WHEN: [Ridiculously backdated. Grr, time zones.] Friday, Nov. 5, 2010
WHERE: Brittany’s house
RATING: PG13
Friday afternoon, Tina made her way over to Brittany's to work on their Rocky Horror roles. With them both playing Columbia, Tina thought it would be a cool idea for them to kind of sync up their mannerisms while they were on stage. For a better performance, of course. It wasn't like she was just looking for an excise to go over to Brittany's... not at all. Though, the last time she had been here was when she was a Freshmen... and she remembered very well how all that had gone down. And even though she had never really let go of that small crush, they were just friends now. And just because Brittany kissed her didn't mean she liked her. I really needed to stop obsessing over this, she thought as she rang the doorbell.
Brittany answered the door with a bag of freshly-popped microwave popcorn in one hand, looking very distraught. "Hi Tina!" she said, gesturing for her to come in. "I just found out that the steam from microwave popcorn gives you cancer so now I can't open this bag or else I'd offer you some."
Tina's eyes widened slightly as she entered, before glancing down at the bag of popcorn. Cancer? "Uh... well, why don't we try opening it outside. Maybe the cool air will like, cancel out any carcinogens... or something." Tina wondered why she always tried to get on Brittany's level of thinking when they talked. "Or we could just make sure we keep the steam away from our faces so we don't inhale it or anything." She figured it was just better and easier to appease Brittany instead of trying to explain that popcorn steam didn't cause cancer... not that she knew of anyway...
Brittany considered Tina's suggestions very seriously. "I guess we could hold our breaths and open it outside," she agreed, cautiously, smiling brilliantly at Tina. "Good idea! You're really smart."
Tina failed at holding back her smile at the compliment. Now she remembered why she always tried to get on Brittany's level of thinking. "Okay. Here, let me," she said, holding out her hand for the bag.
Brittany handed it over, plugging her nose in anticipation of the releasing of the dangerous poisonous delicious fumes. "Thagks, Tida," she said, seriously.
"No problem." Tina tried not to think about how cute she was being, and made a show of holding her breath before standing out on the porch to open the bag. Watching the steam quickly dissipate, she turned and smiled at Brittany. "Alright, I think we're good," she said confidently.
"Great!" Brittany said, cheerfully. "Okay, come on in. I've got some ideas for - Columbine? Is that our name?"
"Columbia," Tina corrected quickly as she walked in and worked on taking off her coat. "Columbine is one of the most infamous high schools in the country," Tina added quietly. Wondering if Brittany had told anyone the two of them were working on their Columbine parts, and really hoping she hadn't. That could have been taken the wrong way by almost anyone. "But cool. I have a few ideas too. Where do you wanna do this?"
"Let's go to my basement," Brittany suggested. "It's big and comfy and there are mirrors on one wall for when my sister and I practice dancing and stuff, so we'll have space to like, practice really well." She took Tina's coat to hang it on a beg, then touched her elbow to start guiding her.
"Okay." Tina said with a nod, as she let herself be guided, idly glancing around at Brittany's house. "Do you still take lessons and stuff?" she asked, trying to make small talk. "I haven't in a while, but I want to start up again."
"Yeah, Mike and I are in this class together, it's pretty great," Brittany said, opening the door to the basement. "You should join too!"
"Uh... maybe." Except, Tina could not imagine the amount of awkward it would be if she joined a dance class with both Mike and Brittany. She was still trying to work out her feelings for Mike, and her attraction to Brittany. It would probably make it only more confusing for her. And the last thing Tina needed was any more drama and confusion in her life. "Though I don't know when I'd find the time, what with Glee and my job. When is the class?"
"Thursdays at eight!" Brittany said. She sat down on the squishier of the two couches in her basement and gestured for Tina to do the same. "What's your job?"
"Oh, uh, I work at the Game Stop in the mall." But she didn't work on Thursdays because of Glee, so she could join... if she wanted to. But she decided not to tell Brittany this, just in case she ended up not doing it. Taking a seat next to Brittany, Tina kinda bounced up and down on the couch a few times before looking over at her. "Comfy," she mumbled awkwardly. Why did she speak sometimes? "So, um, okay. I was thinking that we should, like, maybe go through the choreography together first, and see what we should work on first." Since they were technically there to rehearse, she figured they should probably get to that soon. Especially if it prevented her from saying anymore awkward things.
"That's cool," Brittany said, vaguely, taking a handful of popcorn and shoving it attractively in her mouth. After chewing and swallowing, she added, "I like that plan!"
Tina watched Brittany eat, oddly hypnotized before realizing she was staring. Pretending that she had really just been wanting some popcorn, she grabbed a small handful and tossed a few kernels into her mouth. "Alright, good. So... do you, um, wanna do it now?" she asked, unaware of how that sounded until well after it had already been said. But if she tried clarifying, that would probably make it worse.
"Yeah, okay," Brittany said, wiping her hands off on her pants. "Where do you want to start?"
"Well, let's start with the Time Warp. It's the first major dance number," Tina suggested as she started to stand.
"Kay," Brittany said, standing as well and going over to the family computer, in the corner of the room, to queue up music. "We'll be on stage at the same time, right? I mean, that's the impression I got from Mr. Schue."
"Yeah. I think the audience is just supposed to suspend disbelief and buy that we're the same person. It's actually kinda cool," Tina said, waiting for the music to start. As they got to work, Tina was at first, a lean, mean, dancing machine. But after a while she started getting... distracted by Brittany. Sometimes she would get really close for comfort. "Uh, this is going good so far, I think."
"I think so too," Brittany said, adding some shimmies to her tap number. "I really like that step you just did, can you show me how?"
Tina nodded before stepping over to Brittany. Without really thinking, she placed both her hands on Brittany's hips. "So just, forward, forward and then I add a kick ball change, just because I think it looks cool." she said, kind of simulating it herself. "Um, but if you don't like it we could take it out." Looking up, Tina's breath caught for a moment when she realized just how close they were. "So... yeah."
Brittany tried it a couple times. "I like it," she decided, grinning at Tina. Also noticing how close they were, she suddenly blurted, "So Artie says you're into me."
Tina eyes widened suddenly. Had she heard that correctly?! "I... uh..." What the hell was she supposed to say? And why the hell had Artie told her?! She was fairly certain she'd specifically told him not to tell anyone. That most certainly extended to the subject of their conversation. Though, Brittany didn't appear to be put off in any way, but she probably thought Tina was so pathetic. Tina felt pretty pathetic. That kiss had been so long ago, it was stupid of her to hold onto a crush for so long. But she'd never even thought it would matter. She figured since she'd fallen in love with Artie, any feelings she'd still had for Brittany was nothing more than a fairly innocent attraction. Realizing she hadn't really answered her yet, Tina look away before shrugging. "Um, I... don't really know. I mean, I know you only kissed me that one time, and it's totally lame of me to even be harboring feelings for you when you were probably just experimenting or something," she finally said, feeling slightly defeated.
"I don't think it's lame," Brittany said, seriously. She observed Tina for a minute. "Sorry if I like. Startled you? Or something. I was just going to say though, I think it might be pretty cool on stage if Columbine started making out at some point. I mean Columbia."
Tina was glad to hear Brittany didn’t think she was lame. She felt her face soften and a smile creep across her face until Brittany suggested they kiss on stage. She didn't think her eyes could get any wider than they had just been a few minutes ago, but she was wrong. Blushing, she looked around the room awkwardly. "I dunno if Mr. Schue would let us get away with that." It wasn't that she was trying to get out of it, she really didn't think Mr. Schue would allow it. But she didn't even know if she'd be able to handle making out with Brittany on stage. However... "But, I mean, Columbia is still kind of inappropriate it. So we could do, um, something else. Or just like, dance suggestively, but like, together."
"I guess that could also work," Brittany agreed, shrugging. "Though I'm pretty sure he'd let us get away with it if he didn't know it was going to happen."
Tina blinked a few times. Well, that was true. If they just did it on opening night, it wasn't like anything could be done about it. "That's... a good point." But her parents were going to be there. And other people's parents. And her friends. People who had no idea. People she didn't want having an idea. Not yet anyway. Not until she even knew what it was she was feeling. Or whatever. And then there was Mike. How would he feel seeing her kiss another girl. Or Artie. Even though they weren't together, she still hated seeing him being couple-y with Quinn. She could only imagine the feeling being mutual. Not that her and Britt were a couple... this was just too confusing. "Um, well, at what point would you want them to, you know, kiss?"
"Probably right after the solo in Time Warp," Brittany said. She'd thought of this a little bit beforehand, after Artie had let it slip about Tina, thinking that this would mean Tina probably wouldn't mind a show-stopping move like kissing herself (character-wise. Not like, in real life. Brittany was pretty sure that would be impossible).
"Oh... okay," Tina said, before realizing that she made it sound as if she was agreeing to this. Though, a tiny part of her didn't want to correct or explain herself. "Maybe we should rehearse that first then. Just so it looks right." Clearly, her brain had taken the rest of the night off, and it was just Tina and her teenage girly hormones at this point.
"Okay," Brittany said, willingly enough. "Now, or do you want to run through the dances first?"
"Let's run through the dances first and then you can just... lay it on me. Whenever you feel is appropriate," Tina said, fighting a blush. She couldn't believe she was agreeing to this, but at the same time, she was kind of excited about it. She briefly thought of Mike and their last date, but she'd made it clear to him that she wasn't ready for a relationship just yet, so she wasn't really doing anything wrong...
Brittany giggled. "That sounds good," she said, starting the music up and immediately segueing into the dance steps, looking over her shoulder to make sure that Tina was joining in.
Tina blushed slightly at the sound of Brittany's giggle before jumping into the dance. She was following along just as well as before, but she was anxiously awaiting the moment she knew was coming. The moment Brittany chose to kiss her. She was as nervous as she was excited.
It was when they were tapping across the room towards each other that Brittany decided the time was perfect. After a final flourish of steps, she reached out to Tina and pulled her in for a kiss.
Tina pretty much forgot they were still supposed to be dancing when Brittany kissed her. It all seemed like kind of a pretext anyway. At least on her part. If she was honest with herself, she really just wanted to kiss Brittany again.
Brittany cocked an eyebrow at Tina as she pulled back. The kiss was pretty great - kissing girls was always better than kissing boys, and kissing Tina was just plain fun in general, and the thought that she wouldn't mind doing it again crossed her mind. "So how about there?" she asked.
Tina hadn't kissed that many girls, or really any apart from Brittany, and this was just her second time. But she had only ever kissed two boys now. They were very different experiences, but she definitely enjoyed them both. She just kind of stared at Brittany for a moment after the kiss before realizing she had asked her something. "Oh... sure."
