So far the session was going okay for Deanna. School was a bit of a letdown after spending the session before in New York with her internship but she was managing and enjoying applying things she’d learned during her internship to her designs for back to school clothes. It was with the intentions of taking a break from working on costumes for the play that Deanna found her way into town Saturday afternoon to shop for fabrics for her own wardrobe.
Early Saturday evening found her in a small diner in town, getting ready to enjoy a quiet dinner on her own. She’d just ordered a salad and a hamburger and had pulled out a bit of a soft yellow silk that she’d bought, her mind already picturing the perfect halter style top she’d make it into when she saw a familiar blonde head enter the small diner. “Logan.” She called out without thinking, it had been awhile since she’d seen him and the truth was their encounters had always been strange, perhaps because she still wasn’t sure what she thought about the fact that she’d fallen in bed with him so quickly. But in those moments he was a familiar face and Deanna was in a good mood.
It was unusual for Logan to go out to eat, but ever since he had gone with Ella, he found this great diner in town, and today he couldn’t help wanting a milkshake. As he walked through the familiar doorway Logan heard someone calling him, as he turned Logan realized it was Deanna. Logan had once wanted to chase this girl, but he eventually lost interest in her, although he wouldn’t pass up a discussion with her, he was attracted to her still after all.
“Ah,” Logan said nodding as he approached her, sliding in the booth he set his bass’ case beside him, “I never thought I’d catch you in a place like this...” Logan’s accent was still apparent but his English was better than before.
“It’s amazing the lengths hunger will make you go to.” Deanna replied, her voice light, smile soft and flirtatious as she carefully refolded the length of silk she’d brought out of the bag so that she could place it back in and give Logan her attention for the moment. “It’s not my favorite food to be honest but it’s close to the stores I was at. Didn’t think it’d be your type of place either.”
Deanna was being particularly nice this day, so Logan let her continue without much worry. “Ah, but you have not tried the milkshakes.” as the waitress approached he ordered, “One Strawberry... and for the lady?” he looked to her for a flavour, realizing she might be opposed to paying for her own he reassured her, “My treat of course.” He figured if she was going to be nice he could try too.
Deanna smiled at him but waved off the waitress. The food she ordered would be plenty and she wasn’t about to indulge in the calories contained in a milkshake right then. “I’m fine with water.” She assured the waitress and Logan. “I appreciate the offer.” She as assured him once the waitress had walked away. “I already ordered dinner though and A milkshake really isn’t on the list of things I eat too often.”
Sometimes Logan would wonder why she would hold out on letting loose, this girl was thin, and one milkshake wouldn’t hurt her. “At least promise me you will try a sip of mine,” he looked at her evenly, she must know what she was missing.
Deanna laughed at that and nodded. “I promise I will take a sip of yours.” She assured him, if he was that adamant that she’d try one then she’d play along. She was in a decent enough mood for that. “I’m not promising I’ll like it much though, I really don’t have that much of a sweet tooth.” There was candy and junkfood that she liked, sure but she wasn’t one to gorge on sugar and really never had been.
It surprised Logan that Deanna didn’t care for sweet food, usually women in particular would love things like chocolate, or cheesecake. “That’s strange,” he said with a curious look as he received his milkshake first, “Most girls like sweets...” he took a sip of what he already knew to be good, “Here you promised,” Logan said with a grin sliding the milkshake over to Deanna.
“I like some sweet things.” She admitted. She had a weakness for certain brands of chocolate and for some ice creams but that was about it. “Just not all of them.” She paused and then shrugged she had promised hadn’t she? So she reached for the milkshake and took a slow sip. It was pretty good.” She had to admit as she tasted the sweet liquid. Maybe not heavenly but it was good , that she’d admit. “Not bad,” She told him, her smile slightly mischievous as she couldn’t help but tease just a little since he’d made such a big deal about it.
“You are always so hard to please,” Logan teased back, the only time he remembered her really letting go was when she was intoxicated even then she was hard to have her let her guard down. He quickly stole it back, “More for me then,” he shot her a charming smile. It wasn’t hard for the waitress to notice his looks and accent as she giggled serving Deanna her food, barely paying any attention to how she was serving. Logan politely helped her by making sure the plate landed softly in front of Deanna, he then smiled at the waitress and said “Merci.” which only made her blush more as she walked away.
There were some occasions where another girl spending that much time an attention on someone that Deanna was talking to (it didn’t matter that she wasn’t with him for that moment she was) would annoy her to no end. In this case though it was far too amusing and Deanna had hard time holding her laughter in as she waited for the waitress to walk away. “You have a fan.” She commented with a dimpled grin.
Something about Deanna today was different and Logan liked it. He wondered how a girl could make him change his mind about her ever time he saw her. “Oh, pah... that’s nothing.” he said waving the idea off, the girl was cute, but he wasn’t interested. “It’s nothing compared to the vicious ones at the clubs.” He laughed taking another sip of his milkshake, he complimented her grin with his own, that was the night the two of them had hooked up.
“Ah yes, your vicious groupies.” Deanna smirked a bit as she thought about that night with Logan. It had started out as a bit of a fun lark to save him from the groupies and had turned into more than she’d bargained for that night. Which in some ways explained why her behavior around him was so bipolar at times. “Do you still have to fight them off after sets?”
Logan brushed his hair back, “Well you know it’s a French man’s thing...” he scoffed, truly to him he did not understand why in America he had so much sex appeal to women. “Truly, I do not know what makes me so exciting.” Logan unlike other musician’s didn’t care simply about getting laid, although he was known to take advantage of this when needs arose, but for him, that wasn’t the purpose for his music, sometimes he wished that he’d be taken more seriously.
“It’s because you’re just so damn attractive Logan.” Deanna’s words were said in obvious jest but there was a grain of truth to them and she let it show with her next words. “It’s the accent...and the musician thing. Most girls find it appealing.”
“Is that so?” Logan said playing with her, he even batted his eyelashes, which was shortly followed by a fit of laughter. Afterward Logan leaned back in the booth, his milkshake finished, Deanna had admitted for the first time he could hear Logan complimenting her. “Oh so you think so too?” he said soaking up the compliment with a grin on his face, usually he wasn’t like this, but it was Deanna, and it was hard to get a compliment out of her.
Deanna laughed when he batted his eyelashes, enjoying the easy back and forth with him right then. She waited a beat, taking a bite of the hamburger she’d ordered before she spoke. “I did go home with you.” She reminded him easily. “I think that’s an indicator, right there.”
“But looks aren’t everything right?” Logan said stretching his hands behind his head, with a smirk on his face. The night that he and Deanna had seemed purely physical to him, when he tried to be more sincere and achieve more substance he found himself at a loss. “If I remember correctly you ran out on me the very next morning in a... how you say-- hurry.” Logan wouldn’t let her quickly forget that she had tossed him aside easily, not that he wanted to make her feel bad, but perhaps that maybe he wasn’t a piece of trash, or something to disregard.
“It depends on what you’re looking for.” Deanna replied honestly. “For some things looks are enough.” it had been for Logan really, since she hadn’t been looking for anything more with him and had in fact done her best to keep away from him afterwards. “I was late to meet my parents for parents weekend.” She pointed out with a bit of a smirk of her own when he mentioned that she’d left in a hurry. “I hadn’t actually planned to stay the night.”
Logan chuckled, “So I guess I’m that one night stand that you just can’t rid yourself of.” He wondered why if he was only meant for the night that she still talked to him now, well of course he had persisted, simply because he felt she deserved more from him than just sex. Afterwards she had been quite cold to him, so he let it be, and now here they were chatting friendly in the diner. Logan to a point understood women, but this was beyond his knowledge. “Today you are not shooing me off so quickly.”
“I guess I’m just in a good mood.” Deanna shrugged. The truth was she’d felt a little badly about how she had treated Logan back then she just didn’t know how to say it. “I really didn’t know what was going on back then...it was easier to just shoo you away.” She smiled at him then. Absolutely genuinely. “I guess you’re not too bad to talk to sometimes Logan.”
“A good mood looks good on you.” Logan smiled, he figured if he let her know that this side of her was pleasant, and that he liked that. Logan appreciated the apology, a smug grin was now on his face. “I’ll take not too bad,” from Deanna that was a compliment.
“Good.” Deanna smiled back at him. “Because not to bad is about as good as you’ll get from me.” She was wondering right then if it was possible to be friends with Logan. They seemed to get along when she wanted to. Then again Deanna had never been very good at just being friends with the opposite sex. It was inevitable that some form of attraction would get in the way at some point.
A humorous frown appeared on his face, “We’ll see about that, I’ve changed your mind about me once before.” Now that they were talking again, and Logan felt he once again had the upper hand, and could be less worried about his actions, not that he’d set himself back again, but now he had more confidence.
“Oh you changed my mind did you?” Deanna teased as she saw the frown on his face. “I think My mind just changes..no matter what you do.”
“You and I both know, that you think I’m charming,” Logan said his cockiness coming through, he felt it was okay now that they were joking around, he even figured he’d flirt a little, it couldn’t hurt.
“Okay.” Deanna tilted her head as if contemplating this, very amused by his cockiness and it showed in her smile. “I’ll give you that one, you are charming...of course you are. You’d have to be for me to be attracted to you at all.”
“Don’t forget my ruggedly handsome good looks,” he added with a smirk. Finally he was happy that they could converse like the used to with some added play, which always put Logan in a giddy mood.
“Now that just might be pushing it a bit.” Deanna chastised him with the same amused smile. “Who’s been lying to you and telling you you were ruggedly handsome?” She asked, her voice light, laughter coloring the edges of it as she realized she was just enjoying joking with him.
Logan laughed, “Well you know I just heard rumors at school, in particular from some of your friends.” he winked joking along with her, in reality Logan hadn’t heard anything, but he felt like testing her, seeing how she’d react.
“Oh really, my friends.’ Deanna laughed as he winked at her. “Have you been staling me and eavesdropping on my conversations with my friends?” She joked right back. “Because if that’s the case, I’m very flattered Logan.”
Logan needed to laugh, these accusations were starting to get ridiculous, “No, no, you have it all wrong,” he shook his head, “See your friend was after me, because she thought I was gorgeous, and heard from you how great I am, so they had to have me all to themselves.” This was a lot of ego even for Logan, but they were only playing around, so it was okay.
“Oh Okay. I get it..damn I need to stop bragging about how great you are. Or else every girl in school is going to be after you and I won’t stand a chance.” Deanna stated with a bit of a smirk as she took a few forkfuls of her salad. As much fun as joking around with Logan was (and it surprisingly was) She was starving from shopping all day.
“Well exactly, you know I only have so much time in a week, you know how it is.” with that it was apparent they were both taking this to a new level of joking around, and the grin on his face only reassured that. It wasn’t long before the bill had come, and as Logan thought their meals were under one total price. Logan felt generous, snatching the bill before Deanna could even see it. He opened his wallet, as he waved down the waitress, it wasn’t long before she was off with a fair tip herself.
“Lovely chatting with you,” He said with equal charm, “but I’ve got some errands to run,” he slung his bass over his shoulder. “Don’t brag about me too much okay?” With a wink he turned the corner and was out the door off to see what else he would do today.
