Jo nodded as Eric verbally sussed out his feelings and recollections. “Those sound like healthy ideals…” But she hadn’t been in the room where it happened. Equality and a sense of self were important things in a relationship that had intentions of longevity.
“I don’t know what I want beyond lunch today. So you might be right.” She placed her cup back down and watched Eric exit the struggle bus and begin apologizing. She held up her gloved hand to shush him. She didn’t want compliments or apologies. She was there to listen, and she had now fully submitted to that role.
“Face-to-face is always preferable.” She nudged his shaker closer to Eric across the table top to remind him to ‘eat’. “One-hundred percent - absolutely. There will be chaos. I think it follows them like Pup follows Mateo.” It was just part of how that family functioned. No matter how crotchety the patriarch behaved. “I accused Nate of being taken with Eva. I don’t think I was wrong, but I feel like something else is at play. And for the record, he was concerned you might be a hot-headed type. I told him you’re a saint.” She flashed a rare grin at her friend but also met his eyes to convey that she had better not be made a liar. “Not Olaf, but a saint nonetheless.” Sip.
