By nature, Nathaniel Zale was a solitary creature like a snow leopard, polar bear, platypus, or moose. Furthermore, his natural habitat was any forest made of tall stacks of books and quiet alleys of racks. In short, the time in the library after the incident in the atrium was just what the doctor had ordered. Giosetta's hard reset in the form of tough love had helped Nathaniel refocus his energy and make serious progress in the journal. Fortified in the back of Xavier's library, flanked by well-curated books, Nathaniel poured over the historical text and made a series of handwritten notes in his now companion notebook.
Raven Silvercloud was a marvel, so he'd decided as he learned more and more about her. Not just a survivor but a woman who was able to thrive in a terrible era for women, Natives, and mutants. Each page yielded new and clarifying details that weaved a tapestry Nate was desperate to complete.
Eva's texts were a relief to Nathaniel, who had started to fear he'd damaged their young relationship so quickly. Even when Eva didn't immediately appear in the library something in the ether told Nate she wasn't avoiding him. Then another series of texts appeared on his phone, this set from his son. Nathaniel read and responded to Brayden, who had suddenly become ill. Mateo's father, Logan, had just taken his son to the infirmary where Dr. Jo was thankfully still on duty.
Nathaniel collected the journal and his notes and left the library for the mansion's sub-basement. He quickly dropped the journal back in the secured room and set his notebook beside it, then moved to the infirmary himself. Nate quickly thanked Logan and went to his son, who was resting comfortably on one of the exam beds.
