Re: “I wear the chain I forged in life,” replied the Ghost.
Thor's feelings resounded in her heart - love, joy, fear. There was a glimmer of hope when he confirmed her suspicions of Eva. Then he told her he'd considered speaking to the queen about her... Her heart was pounding even harder than before because her mind was on a tightrope, either side rejection or relief.
He was riddled with emotion, which Sif reflected openly. Her heart was already breaking at causing him this strife. He finally found his words...
"... love Eva ... pledged myself ... my life, and beyond ... only wife ... mother of my children ... honored partner ... crumble into ash."
Sif wished to crumble into ash, at that moment. He'd gone on and on about his devotion... to the point she felt both pride and nausea. It was the best trait to find in a king, one she'd devoted much of her life to, ironically.
The dark-haired goddess stared back at Thor and the breath she'd been holding came out in the form of a noise she wasn't completely proud of. "I understand." She retracted her hand from him long before then, out of respect. "I do not wish to cause harm to your marriage - that was not my intention. Nor do I wish to bring upset to our kingdom," she said with a bow of her head. Mostly so the tears hit the floor and not her sweater. The warrior took a step back to allow proper breathing room. Thor's wording had been tricky, at the end, but she felt just then wasn't the time to dissect it. "I will not intrude on you this way again. Please forgive me..." Her dark eyes met Thor's light ones and she tried to offer him a friendly smile, forgiveness of her own, but it faltered immediately at the hurt she saw in the Allfather.
