But he was my trouble. Nathaniel stood, ominously, where he'd elected to meet his prey. His dark eyes narrowed when he felt his target approach and then Eva's sing-songy voice erupted from his pocket.
"I'm a potato..."
"Oh for the love of..." Nate trailed off and opened the text message which had ruined his vibe. "Oh fuck," the royal vizier said with a chuckle. Freyr, King of Alfheim, had texted him... and it was a fantastic message. Nathaniel smirked at the potential. Unfortunately he was still smiling when Ronan rounded the corner.
"Fucking hell," the Murphy uttered when he was suddenly face to face with the taller man. "The sight of you smiling is legitimately terrifying."
Nate chuckled a few more times, unwilling to let Ronan ruin his moment. His phone disappeared into his pocket and without acknowledgement of Mars, Nate's game face returned. "Hello Ronan, you've aged," Nathaniel commented on the Irishman's weathered appearance.
Ronan sighed, not amused. "Listen Nate, I'd've prepared a better comeback but I didn't hear the sound of your cloven hooves to warn me," he admitted. "What that fuck do ye want?"
"You haven't told me everything about your journey through Helheim," he focused on Ronan's slightly dimmed blue eyes. "Tell me about your interaction with the demon Mephisto."
"I interacted with a lot of demons," Ronan countered then started to walk along his merry way until Nate's shoulder blocked his path.
"Don't," Nate spoke softly with into Ronan's ear, now intimately close. "Lie to me," Caltrops warned then side-stepped Mars so that the other man could pass. "I'll find out what you're hiding and I'll expose you. Just like the King of Alfheim just exposed himself to me. You're lucky I have to go show someone this picture," he semi-explained then waved his hand to remove the demon trap he'd painted on the ceiling above where Ronan had walked. "Goodbye, Ronan," Nate bid the other man farewell then left the corridor completely.
After he re-routed his original path he entered where the wizard knew Eva to be. Luckily, she was alone. "I have a job for Dom and Morgan. And a picture you should probably see," the adviser told his queen and newly-admitted love with a completely serious expression.
