Ah... new things. Speaking to a person with Autism, that phrase might as well have been a four-letter word. Auster knitted his eyebrows and gave a sympathetic (though slightly amused) smile when she mentioned her status with men at her door.
Soph recollected her weak immune system, something David was partially privy to, and he nodded as she attempted to explain away her lack of suitors. He smiled; he was a mess. Then she squeezed him. "That's," he nearly stuttered, most of his brain focused on the contact she'd initiated, "l-l-lovely t-to hear." The much taller mutant bit his lower lip to keep from squirming and then settled into the sensation. Phewww... okay. He was okay. His smile returned and he patted Soph's hand on his arm, then leaned forward and pulled her into one of his impromptu David!hugs. Her hair smelled as sunny as it looked.
When he released Ziva, he looked to the ground for a few moments, then his head ducked and he chanced a look at her dark eyes. "I get lots of attention from women," he shared. "I've been told I make the very best shopping buddy." There was that wistful look again, the same one he'd sported during his last camping trip - in the woods not too far from their current spot. He was most frequently, as Mars called it, 'friend-zoned'. "I'm glad we're not shopping," David added, as an afterthought, then his rather large feet in his rather large shoes swayed idly at the end of his stretched out legs.
