As I conclude this summer's endless book tour, I returned to my apartment in Montréal this weekend to find that my one lonely houseplant is still alive despite many weeks of neglect. This is what true victory feels like. Be proud of me, Ororo.

I'll be in Montréal through Thursday, then up to my first home in Fermont for a day. Fermont is a mining town in northeastern Québec: cold, isolated, lonely, provincial. They tend not to care for mutants or gays there, but I am the town's most famous son, so this should be exciting in myriad ways. Then back to New York in time for the beach trip and a hot date.

Oh yes, and my agent would like me to remind you all to go and buy my book, Born Normal. It's an inspirational, daring instant classic of a memoir with a buoyant message of hope and resilience for anyone who's ever felt less than normal. This is from the back cover blurb, so you know it must be true. Also, proceeds go to charities in support of children and mutants. Think of the mutant children and pick up a copy at any discerning purveyor of literature near you.

Given the excitement of the past few weeks, I think we're all in need of a vacation.

With that in mind, all staff, students, and consultants and invited to an outing to Calf Pasture Beach. There will be food provided (Staff: Yes, the food will be provided by us. We're having a potluck), and we'll have transportation for all who wish to go. It will be Monday, August 29th.

I understand that this is hardly the time, what with the recent incidents with the Friends of Humanity and classes resuming shortly, however, in light of recent events and indeed partially for personal reasons, I feel it is best to take a extended hiatus from both the X-Men and indeed teaching at the Institute.

I don't doubt you'll have a stream of suggestions from my colleague as to who can take over my classes.

Of course, I will still be fully available should I be required.

Xavier's Faculty and Students:
As I am aware just how quickly gossip spreads through the school, I'll nip it in the bud before it starts.

I'm take a leave of absence. I shall not be teaching this semester and I am removing myself from the active X-Men roster. I will be remaining in the city and will be entirely reachable, I'm just taking some time to reassess things.

I can be reached via normal communications or specific mental reach outs -please remember I do maintain an active social life and may be busy at times, but in crisis, naturally I'm available.

I just got back from my appointment at the Department of Homeland Securities where I spoke with Agent Walker. Even though I've fulled out the necessary paperwork to request a copy of the mall's various security footage, and it's been turned down, citing a loophole that prevented him from giving us the copies. Mr Walker was very belligerent during our entire meeting, and if I were to speculate, I'd say he was biased against mutants. I'll continue to pursue this case by submitting the paperwork all over again, but it might take longer than initially anticipated, taking it to a higher authority if need be.

Don't worry, it's being taken care of. We'll just need to be patient.

Okay, it just may be me being a little paranoid, but I am going to be completely honest and say that I am a little iffy about all the things that could go completely wrong tomorrow at the new malls opening in Queens. There's bound to be anti-superpowered groups.

Do you know if there's going to be extra security measures? I also don't want another incident like the shooting at the theater. I'm here to help out in any way possible to make this safe for everyone. I know a lot of us here are going, and I feel like it would be wise to join together.
