John nibbled through his sandwich, regarding Emma for a while. He hadn't really had much to do with her when he'd been at Xavier's. They'd assumed that a strong male figure in his life would've been grounding or something, because he'd mostly been dealt with by Summers or Xavier themselves, or the older kids that had been around. He'd figured that Emma was mostly involved with training the psi kids either way.
The School hadn't really been anything that St John was all for anyway. It was nice to get off the streets and figure out that there were people that didn't revile him for his ability, that other kids were just as messed up and dealing with it. But he'd been on his own for years at that point, he had a code, he had a way to live, he had his own ethics and morals. Stepping into the school, being told how to live, how to use his powers, how he should think and act, it wasn't something he was decidedly endeared with.
"D'you know the little speech that they give you arrive there? The bells and whistles about acceptance and safety and how everything will be better? It's all bullshit. They don't accept shit, they just wanna shape you into something they think is acceptable, some functioning little automaton that spews out all the crap that they wanna say." St John understood Xavier's dream, the same way he understood Magneto's perspective, the problem was that being on the other side of those ideals, seeing the bigger picture, it was clear that neither of them knew how to get that, and human nature would never allow it to happen.
"Xavier tells you that you're safe and that this can be home, so long as you don't mind him poking into your head? That any thoughts you have, they're just gonna be snooped into, teachers are gonna watch you like you're some kind of bomb ready to go off and it doesn't even matter that it's just thoughts. People think things, doesn't mean they're gonna do them." And John couldn't change the anger, he couldn't avoid when he got pissed off and lashed out, but when all he was doing was thinking it, why should it be held against him? Humans weren't put on trial for thinking about killing, why should St John have been treated like that just because he thought about burning shit to the ground?
