MY TURN TO SUCK!
He could see the sorrow in her green eyes that were rimmed with red from tears and his heart longed to take away her pain. The scars on her face raised questions that he was sure she couldn't answer if he asked, so he didn't. Her simple response told him all that she grieved for and he knew then she'd lost someone dear to her. Though he had yet to experience it - not being very involved with anyone here made it easy to avoid the pain - he knew what it might feel like to have loved and lost. In fact, something whispered in his heart that he knew very well what it was like to long to for something you couldn't possibly have. Losing someone mean you couldn't have them either.
"I understand. Who have you lost? Tell me about them." He shifted on the pew for a better position to give her all his attention and to listen if she chose to respond to his request. He had an avid interest in others and was curious to what it was that she had held dear in her memory of those now gone.
