Who: Carol and Erik
NPCs: Beach goers
When: 5/25, Sunset (backdated)
Where: A beach not far from Stark's mansion
What: Erik and Carol celebrate her birthday.
Rating: PG-13
As Carol had requested, Erik had not mentioned the fact that this was her birthday to the rest of the inhabitants at the mansion; more, he'd tried not to act as though it was at all different from any ordinary day. He made coffee, worked out, read his medical journals - making note on promising studies of mutant medicine and different treatments for those with different physiologies, from mere super-durability to some truly bizarre mutations - tried to keep out of the way of the Gala-planning that had taken over several rooms, and eventually wandered down to see what Carol was doing to the jet now. He would much rather have skipped the intervening activities and gone straight to her side, but...well, they both had their duties to preform, and for the moment, they were still two private people keeping this to themselves, even if there wasn't a true need for subterfuge.
That being the case, perhaps it was not so surprising Carol didn't want any fuss over her birthday; he tried not to feel guilty that he was shirking his duties over indulging her with presents. This was what she said she wanted, and they'd slipped away to have this private moment between them. As they walked along the beach, talking of nothing in particular as they watched the sun sink into the sea, he couldn't say that it wasn't a gift; to be able to hold hands and give no thought to how anyone would react but each other, to be a normal couple.
He had to draw the line on some things, though. "Th'art still getting a cupcake," he told her dryly, but with a trace of a smile. Who could argue with chocolate frosting?
