If it had been a date, Jim would have ventured to pick Danvers up, but he knew better than that. She was not the kind of girl to open doors for or dote over in anyway or fashion, unless of course the intention of the given gentleman was a black eye or worse. Certainly in all his years of knowing her, he had seen many men hit on her only to be hit on back in a completely different and entirely adverse fashion. That was just the way of things with her, and you either understood Danvers or you didn't. There was no room for compromise. She was a warrior born, and the equal of any ten good men, especially now that she had her super powers. To consider her as anything less could be hazardous to ones health.
But that did not stop Jim from harboring his own private feelings for her, even if the expressing of them seemed more impossible now than when they were in the Air Force together.
At least he wouldn't have to wander up to the door of another mansion full of superheroes.
Standing out on the street outside Peter Luger's in his old worn bomber jacket, he casually waited for Danvers to arrive. He had simply told her to meet him here around noon, but it was still a few minutes until then. To pass the time he had picked up a copy of the New York Times, and been amused by a write up on the Avengers. It was still hard for him to believe that Danvers, of all people, had become a costumed superhero and as he thought about it he recalled idly the first time she had told him of her powers. At the time, he had been too pleased to find out she was in excellent health after her accident to think of what the consequences of her gaining her powers would be, but now as he smiled at a picture of 'Ms. Marvel', it all hit him hard, as it had been over much of the past year.
Shaking his head a little, he stepped off to one side as a couple made their way out of the restaurant.
