Who: Logan and Jean
NPCs: Hisashi, villagers, as of yet unnamed baddies.
When: April 8th, 2009.
Where: Rural Japanese village that was home to Logan years ago.
What: Coming to the end of their sabbatical, Logan has relearned a lot of his forgotten skills if not much of his past, while Jean has shown signs regaining more of her powers each day. Things are going pretty good until tragedy strikes.
Rating: PG-13
It had been nearly a month, and though Logan had gone to Japan to look for his past (while helping Jean recover her powers), he had questioned where he came from less and less as the days passed. While he had grown close to Jean on their journey to Japan, it was their first night there together that served as the catalyst that forever changed their relationship. Gone were the boundaries, the restraints, the expectations. Logan was free to love Jean and she him without the worry of outside factors, influences, and judgment. A liberty...
But they had focused on more than just one another. Logan, for himself, had trained daily with Hisashi to re-learn his forgotten samurai training. Having been characterized as a brawler who primarily threw punches, Logan was learning a much greater fluidity of movement than he had probably exhibited in decades, adding kicks as well as various holds and take downs to his repertoire-becoming again the warrior he had once been. Instead of uncontrolled and brutal savagery, as Stryker had instilled in him, Logan was learning peace and discipline. More than anything, and especially with Jean at his side, he was becoming a man again.
While Logan trained from the early morning to the middle of the afternoon, he had at first largely left Jean to her own devices during that time. He figured she needed the time to focus and take advantage of the quiet their village life afforded them to concentrate. While he was not familiar enough about the nature of her mutant power to make an accurate prediction as to how she was progressing, even he realized she had come a long way from their first night together, when he heard her voice echoed in the back of his head. Since then, Logan had inexplicably even become vaguely aware that he could sense the presence of Jean as if she was standing right beside him even when he was off doing his own thing, a feeling which was alien, strange, and altogether welcome.
It was the middle of the afternoon that they typically met up again. After sharing a lunch together, Logan would take Jean off into the lush green, hilly landscape outside the village to spend time teaching her the ways of hand to hand combat. It had taken more than a little convincing for her to realize that he could take whatever she threw at him, and that even if she did manage to hurt him, he would heal almost instantaneously. By now, though, she had come a long way, so that while still not particularly equal a match, Jean was at least capable of standing up to him.
Just as she was now, at present.
Logan could scarcely help but grin as she came at him, executed punches and kicks he would not have thought her capable of mere weeks ago. Most of the blows he batted aside, as he frequently did with a forearm or hand, but during this particular flurry she got a good, solid hit in on his abdomen, momentarily depriving him of his air. He choked as much as he laughed, even as she followed up her attack by knocking him flat on his back-being relentless, like he had taught her. It was not until she tried to pin him that he really fought back, over coming her with his superior upper body strength and rolling over so that he held her wrists crossed over her head. Whatever defiance she began to mount quickly dissipated as he leaned down to kiss her, only releasing her hands when she began to return his tenderness.
"You're getting good, Jean", he whispered against her lips moments later. "By the time we get back to the school, there will be few X-Men you won't be able to take down with your bare hands."
He wanted to make a comment about her being able to knock Scott on his ass, but thought better of it as he leaned up to brush a strand of red hair from her face.
