Who: Guido Carosella (narrative) NPCs: rescued boy When: 2/15/10 - during battle Where: battlefield, Manhattan What: After surviving five other buildings falling down on him, Guido's crushed by the last one building and collapses himself. Rating: PG-13
It had been a constant barrage of destruction. Guido, donned in his X-Men gear had approached the area like a hero. Without hesitation, he ran into the building to hunt for civilians. He didn't care that it was about to fall. It would be dealt with as his power allowed him to absorb the impact only to quickly use it on something deserving like some rubble or Galactus.
But he hadn't expected the domino effect to hit him. He went through the building, finding a crying child. He scooped him up, telling the boy that he would be OK in that tender manner Guido had about him. He then raced against the crumbling building.
Seeing as he'd been through a few of these already that day, Guido was beginning to recognize the signs that a building is about to collapse. "Hang on!" He said and barreled through. But it was not enough, the building was coming down now. Thinking fast, Gweed tucked the boy to his chest and hunched over as the bricks came falling down on him. He gritted his teeth as the scaffolding slammed into his back, but he did not move - the boy was crying, but not getting one iota of the impact.
When it was all over, Guido slowly lifted up, the bits of building moving with and off him. He trudged his way out to the clearing, barely able to talk to reassure the boy that he was out. He let him down, not noticing the look of awe the boy was giving him, either from the rescue or the fact that the strong guy was much larger right now. "Thank you!" he said between tears of relief.
Guid gave a strained smile and uttered, "It's my job, son," and turned to the debris to take a few punches in the ground to release some of the kinetic energy he absorbed when something inside his jerked.
It was a moment there when he realized it was his heart. He gasped and clutched his chest in surprise then slammed into the ground.
