Who: Scott Summers, Jean Grey, Cain Marko, and Doug Ramsey
NPCs: Danger Room sims?
When: Saturday, December 5th
Where: Danger Room, Xavier's Academy
What: Scott, Jean, and Doug put Cain through Danger Room paces in assessment.
Rating: PG-13 for sim violence (and hungover Douggie)
It had been a long afternoon already in the Danger Room, since they'd put Marko through a fairly substantial workup. Granted, they had two power-sets to get through: his abilities as the full-blown Juggernaut, and the more reduced baseline set he'd informed them that he'd likely be using during most of his X-Corps work.
Scott would almost have accused him of holding out on them, but he'd listening to the man's logic on staying low-key and been forced to just acknowledge in the end his reasoning was sound--startling, really. And "logic" and "low-key" weren't two words he'd have readily associated with a man like this.
Still, Cain was being far more cooperative here than he'd been for Jean's clinical. And Scott was being even more thorough than he'd have done for anyone else, to be honest, but he was trying to think two steps ahead here. The more data he got on the man's powers, the better off they'd be in case he backslid someday and they had to face him again.
They'd already run him through basic test sims--strength, agility, speed, and all, for both cases, and he'd happily demolished his share of opponents as Juggernaut. Given this new data, Scott's basic conclusion was that the less they had to face him as an opponent, the happier and healthier they'd all be.
But Scott found some interest in the fighting skills of...Mini-Juggernaut? Demi-Juggernaut? Cain had started off a bit slow, to be honest. But he seemed to have found his stride eventually and proceeded to rip through a progressively difficult sequence of opponents, shaking off the offer of a rest each time as though it was an insult. He was obviously a man out to prove something, and his proof was the kind that was swift and brutal.
"He sort of reminds me of Logan like this," he said thoughtfully to Doug and Jean. Super-strength and momentum versus an instantaneous healing factor, yes, but that same kind of relentless aggression was there. Both men carried themselves in combat with that fearless, confident angle of being unbeatable. Yeah, Sean was going to have his hands full. But Scott would be the first to admit the sheer usefulness of a fighter like that from his experiences with Logan--so long as you didn't get on his bad side.
He reached for the mic. "One more round and we'll call it a day, Marko," he said. A hint of a smile touched his lips. "Any requests for an opponent?" Why not--give the guy a chance for a good finale for them to scrutinize.
