Kate stared at the mirror and took a deep breath.
Was she really going to do this?
It had seemed simple enough. She had had everything set for ages and tonight she had laid it all out on her bed. There was the dark purple outfit she had had made, the mask she had found during Halloween, her own bow and an assortment of arrows, and her fencing sword. She had had more than enough conviction while getting dressed but now, staring into the mirror she felt... a little silly.
Flat out ridiculous, actually.
She made a face at her reflection and bit her lip once. She bet the Fantastic Four never had to deal with this. Then again, the Fantastic Four had matching costumes and they were heroes. It was a lot easier to look awesome when you had other people backing you up. She wouldn't have the costume party excuse this time around.
Oh well. In for a penny, in for a pound. Kate tugged on her mask and smoothed out her hair. She'd done a good job last time and Kate was determined to stage a repeat performance. She slipped out of her bedroom easily enough-- decided that next time she'd bring her costume with her. Thankfully, the darkness did a good job of concealing her and anyone who did manage to get a good look at her merely did a double take and continued on their way. It was New York, after all.
Finally, once Kate was in a more densely populated area, she made a point to scale the first fire escape she saw. She jumped from rooftop to rooftop, letting the urban housing structure dictate where she went. She'd have to do something about transportation eventually. She couldn't even imagine trying to take the subway home.
She tried following the sirens but they were out of her range far too quickly. By the time she arrived on the scene the police were already pushing a suspect into the back of their cruiser. Next time, Kate thought.
Finally, hours later, she heard an alarm go off. Kate rushed across the rooftops until she found the pawn shop with its front window open. It wasn't exactly a first national bank, but it'd do. She stood at the edge of the building and looked down.
There was a brown sedan idling, complete with a driver in a ski mask. No sign of his accomplices, they must still be in the store.
Well, this burglary wasn't going to be that easy. Kate nocked and arrow and seconds later, it hit the car's front tire. There. That should get the bad guy's attention.
