"I am also from outside America," Amara explained with a smile. "That was the hardest part, I think. English isn't my first language." Which you wouldn't have known from her current fluency, but she'd gotten a magic helping hand with that. As for the culture shock, that was a different matter entirely. "I watched a lot of programming on the television box, and I surrounded myself with people patient enough to explain things to me when I didn't understand."
That was the most important part, in Amara's opinion. Her old team and some of her other friends had been her gateway to the modern world. "Everyone here is quite patient. I can attest to that. But if you ever need anything..."
