There was a lot more exploration of the school grounds that Jono felt he needed to do. He'd neglected to discover much aside from the quiet places he could be by himself, and the more public areas he wanted to avoid, like the cafeteria. He knew where many things were, technically speaking, but hadn't seen them for himself.
So he was taking himself on a better tour, which wasn't as interesting as it might have been if he'd had a guide. But he thought he was doing okay. He was just getting past the gym, which was good to know where it was though he was pretty sure he wouldn't be doing much of anything with it, when he heard his name. Jono turned around, looking for the source, wondering who it might be. He was a little surprised to see only a face he didn't really know.
Hello... He assumed that since she knew his name, she knew about his inability to speak, and decided to skip over the formality of using his phone first. I'm sorry, I don't believe we've met, have we?
