Jubilee was tired of being in the basement. She never thought of herself as claustrophobic, but she was quickly gaining that fear. The darkness didn't bother her but the closed space did. Sometimes she felt like she was going crazy, other times, like today, she just wanted to curl into a ball and fade away. She didn't like being this emo, and normally she wasn't. People rarely came down to visit her, which was her own fault since she kept telling them to go away, but sometimes she wished they'd just ignore her and come see her. Most of the time, if she saw anyone, it was just Nemesis.
She was lying on the floor in the dark again, the cold seeming into her skin but it didn't affect her the same way it used to. She frowned and closed her eyes, listening to the soft hum of the fan. And then she heard it. It wasn't like a hearbeat, it was something else. A crackling of energy, maybe? Was something wrong?
Then she heard movement. Shoes padding on the ground and she sat up. It was dark but she could make out the shape of the figure who was seeking out something. Probably the light switch. But it was strange, really, that she couldn't hear a heartbeat. Just the thrum of energy. Rising to her feet slowly, she navigated her way easily through the dark and flipped the light switch on. Her eyes immediately adjusted and she stared at the guy through the glass.
"What are you?" she asked with a hint of hostility, though the question would've been better phrased with a "who" than the "what" she'd opted for.
