After high school? Laura didn't have any plans for her future, mostly because she hadn't been thinking any of this would last as long as it had. She'd clearly been living in a learning fashion, and slowly making her own decisions, but Jean was correct. The girl was making her decisions based on other people's wants and needs instead of her own. Other people gave her direction. While making her own fate was something she wished to do, it was also frightening. She'd watched people make decisions that caused them to lose everything they'd worked hard to obtain.
Some had embraced it. Others regretted it. While she was not afraid of failure, she did not want to lose the world she'd built, but it was being pointed out to her that it was a temporary one. She would have accepted that before the adoption, but with it plus the addition of her little sister, it was much harder.
There was really only one thing she was good at, or so she believed. She didn't think that was on the table as an option, and it wasn't something she wanted to do for a living. So, she only nodded at Jean's words.
