"Yeah, they do seem to be," Jean replied with a smile, playing with the long black strands of Laura's hair. Her daughter had become quite the young nurturer, and every time she observed it, she couldn't help but imagine grandkids in her future. It didn't matter if Laura had been created as a living weapon. Jean had the same dreams for her that she had for Rachel→a long and happy life, a good career and the family of Laura's choosing.
"Maybe later this week we can go clothes shopping. Just the two of us." She smiled, encouragingly at her eldest. "Dad can watch Rachel. How does that sound?" Truth be told, it was hard to give her teenage daughter all the attention she deserved while there was an exuberant toddler that took all their energies to wrangle at times.
