It was after hours at the Law Offices of Nelson and Murdock and currently Matt was shooting the shit with his office partner and best friend Franklin "Foggy" Nelson. He still had one more client for the day, but she wasn't coming until later, and for right now, Matt was content to eat some dinner (Thank you, Mr. Chen!) and listen to Foggy relate to him the trials and tribulations of his dating life. Or lack there of apparently. They were in Foggy's office, Matt poking through a carton of Hunan Chicken, his partner throwing mini basketballs through a hoop behind that was hidden behind the door.
"I just don't get it, Matt. I just don't get it," Foggy began. "I did everything right. I held the door open. I paid for dinner. We even took one of those cab rides through the park. And now she won't answer my phone calls?"
Matt "looked" up at Foggy—he tilted his head in his friends direction and gave him a shrug.
"I don't know what to tell you. I'm sorry that that happened, buddy. She obviously wasn't worth it." Poor Foggy, Matt thought. So unlucky in love. ...Then again, Matt didn't exactly have the best track record either.
That's when Karen paged them, from the front office. It wasn't often that their paralegal worked after hours, but Karen insisted that it was the right thing to do since both Matt and Foggy were staying she would too, because she was a team player. Besides, she had some extra work that needed tending too, like updating the pocket parts in their legal library—a task she had been, admittedly, putting off. "Mr. Murdock? Ms. Knight is here to see you."
"Ah that's for me..." Matt reached out with his hand to fiddle with the phone and skimmed his hands over the keys until he found the one that he wanted. "Send her back Karen. Tell her I'm with Foggy."
