It seemed her employees had grown lax in the weeks she was gone.
While she often traveled during the year, and left the club to her underlings, it was rare for her to be gone for such an extended period. Couple that with her previous traveling during the wave of Sentinels, and Selene had been gone for quite the while during the last six months. It seemed like a good portion of her employees had gotten used to not having her around. That would definitely have to change. Perhaps it was time for some re-evaluations.
Opening the door with a flourish, Selene smirked inwardly as her employees froze in shock. A few had drinks at their lips, their bodies frozen in indecision by her appearance. Should they continue drinking or put them aside immediately? The liquor bottles behind the counter were impeccably placed as usual, but the amount of dirty glasses on the counter hinted of more usage by employees than usual.
"I do apologize," she drawled, glancing from one employee to the next, picking up on those looking exceptionally guilty. "Have I interrupted something?"
Without waiting for a response, she let the door shut behind her. She started walking through the club, her eyes picking up on details others would have missed. "It seems a number of you have taken my absence as an excuse to grow lazy. The Club is in desperate need of a good sweep and clean, as the dirt on the floors and walls are entirely unacceptable. I want the bars polished so well I can see my reflection. I'm sure the back room and bathrooms need cleaning as well. We have a Valentine's Day party here on Thursday, people. This place needs to be immaculate by then."
Various employees needed at her instructions and scurried off to their tasks, suddenly worried about losing their jobs. Keeping her face bland, Selene watched them rush to their duties for a moment before making her way to her private office. She ran a hand across the bartop, frowning as bits of dust came back on her fingers. Yes, the place definitely needed a cleaning. It looked like her employees would be quite busy in the days to come.
She pushed open the door to her office, ignoring the mustiness of the room. Her office had not been aired out in days, which always left the stale smell. One of the many inconveniences of her traveling. She sat behind the desk, letting her purse drop to the floor. She pulled a single item out of the purse and stared at it.
The driver's license she had stolen weeks ago.
It was definitely a project worth pursuing. The question was, how did she want to approach the widow and daughter of the man she killed? Should she kill them immediately? Or would they prove more useful if she forced them under her will.
Those were decisions she needed to consider over the next few days. Until then, she had other tings to worry about.
Like her Valentine's Day event. No time like the present to get on that.
