Who: Steve Rogers
NPCs: JARVIS
When: Wednesday, January 30, 2013
Where: Steve's office, Avenger's Mansion, New York
What: Steve sends an email.
Rating: Low.
As Steve sat in his office that afternoon, he considered things. Looking at his desk someone had placed, there, a framed photograph of Invaders, perhaps to make him feel more at ease...more at home here. He was curious where the photograph had come from and tried to think desperately even when it was taken. He picked up the frame from his desk and looked at the faces immortalized there in black and white: Jim Hammond, Lady Jacqueline Falsworth, Namor, Bucky...
All scattered to the wind.
But it got him thinking—what made a team successful? Clearly, good leadership. But Steve wasn't one to trumpet his own abilities. He looked at his role as leader as one to be taken seriously as well as humbly. It was his duty, but also a privilege. Being handed so much responsibility was not something Steve took lightly. And it was one of the prime reasons he sat there today, pondering the Avengers.
So, what made a good team? Looking at the photograph of the Invaders got him thinking about the members what made up the team. What did they possess that had them working together like such a well-oiled machine? Although, at the time it may not have seemed that way, considering Namor's pension for, well, being Namor. But as he continued to dwell, he realized the answer was diversity. And the understanding of each of the members skills and personality. While Namor might have been the arrogant sort, everyone took him in stride and everyone respected his abilities otherwise.
How did this relate to the Avengers? Everyone it seemed, had such big personalities.
He had statistics and reports available to him that he had read and read and read again until he had practically memorized what they said.. Studies conducted on this very subject what was needed for a team to be successful:
The extrovert who has good networks - Tony Stark.
The dynamic individual who thrives on the pressure - Janet Van Dyne.
The person who soberly evaluates the usefulness of ideas - Thor.
The cooperative team player - Peter Parker.
And the not-so-cooperative team player - Clint Barton.
The ones with specialist skills - Hank Pym.
And those who turn ideas into solutions - Jennifer Walters
The person who get issues completed - Natalia Romanova.
And finally, the person who keeps the team together effectively - that was him.
It was by no accident that they were all brought together. But then what was their major malfunction? Steve could only take the blame, that he had some how failed as his role as leader.
[Taking a trip down memory lane, sir?] JARVIS, Stark's cheeky A.I. finally spoke up.
Steve was brought out of his thoughts and he set the photograph down and arranged it at the corner of his desk.
"No...no, just thinking about the future, actually," Steve replied. "Actually," Steve started, and brushed his fingers along the collar of his shirt. "I'm glad that...you're...here." It was always a little disconcerting speaking with the disembodied voice of JARVIS, although he was getting much better about it. JARVIS, he found, was more personable than some of the people he knew and that was saying something.
"Could you help me write an electronic message?" He asked, and glanced at the computer not even turned on, also on his desk, his nose wrinkling a little bit at the prospect of even turning it on.
[Certainly, sir. And who should I address this too?]
"Avengers. All."
