Sheila was an anchor for a major national network, and while she was secretly cursing the fact that she was unable to spend Christmas Eve with her boyfriend and their dog, she was happy to be in a position to break the story. She fluffed her hair dutifully before getting the signal from her camera operator that they would be live soon.
"Good morning, I'm Sheila Decker reporting live from Washington DC where amidst a number of chaotic discussions in congress, some landmark progress is being made. Sources speculated all night that bi-partisan bargaining was being made well into the night regarding everything from fiscal reform to gun control, and many senators and representatives found themselves facing a winter recess with zero action being taken on any front.
"So it comes as no surprise that at the 11th hour, we are seeing what many are calling a milestone in compromise. This morning the votes were counted, and the Mutant Registration Act has been repealed--oh and there is a representative whose face we've all come to recognize. She-Hulk!" Jen seemed to be in a hurry as she made her way down the steps. She hadn't expected to be ambushed by a reporter on her way out of DC. She'd been sent to DC to speak with key contacts. The firm had told her in no uncertain terms that she was here to speak on behalf of repeal due to her unique skill set and appearance--a friendly face to colorful Otherness. She pushed a smile onto her face, stopping for the reporter and her camera. "Can you tell us a little bit about the decision made today?"
"Sure--hey hi!--" She waved into the camera and kept the winning grin on her face. "Well, starting the fifteenth of January--provided that the President doesn't veto this action, which we really doubt he will--all records from Mutant Registration are going to be sealed, and the Mutant Response Division will be phased out. In a few weeks, this nightmare will be a thing for the history books."
"What does this mean to you, personally?"
"Well, I'll tell you--I known a lot of amazing people, and I've met a lot of amazing people, who possess an X-gene. They're as American as you or me, and they're owed the same rights as any of us. I think this is wonderful. I've met so many dedicated, hardworking individuals who have been making calls to their congressmen, who have put in tireless hours educating people, and then there's the reporters getting the truth out to the people about the huge rights violations executed by the MRD. It's been huge effort on the part of a lot of people, but I'm so glad this law didn't stick."
"And what wou--"
"I am so sorry. I would love to talk for longer, but I have a plane to catch. Flying this season's a nightmare!" She shook the reporter's hand and waved to the camera before disappearing down the street.
