For the Hollywood playboy he was often portrayed as, the truth was that Arthur was actually quite down to earth. Faithful, even, when he was in a relationship. He loved to love women, but at the same time he had a respect for them, in particular the girls he was with that was rare, especially in Hollywood. Never before had he had any particular trouble catching the eye of a girl he fancied, and more often than not, he didn't have to, which was something the address book in his cell phone could well attest to, featuring the names of a wide spectrum of female celebrities.
But there was one whose number he did not have. One who did not even seem to want to give him the time of day. One who had not just rejected him once, but twice now.
Alison Blaire.
If she had blown him off and just been completely incompatible, that would have been one thing. No matter how much he might have otherwise been interested in her, personality meant a lot to him, which was why had yet to settle down with any one particular girl. Looks only counted for so much. Alison had the looks, but also a creative drive he not only admired, but saw in himself. Yes, she rejected him, but she had been gracious about it, almost as though worried about wounding his pride. He probably should have given up and moved on, but something about her made him crave more, and if nothing else, a simple, mere chance.
And he was determined to have it.
Standing across from her now in the basement of Oslo, with the bar between them in his role as 'John Kagan', the camera's began to roll. In the script, he was supposed to walk up to the bar, and smooth talk Alison, who was playing the tender, Violet, all while gleaning some information about the man his character was after.
Instead, he did something a little different.
'John' strolled up to the bar just as he was supposed to, and even took out a stool as he took a seat, fixing 'Violet' with a brilliant smirk. "Scotch on the rocks", he sad as he eased himself into place and leaned forward to put his elbows on the bar top. "And whatever info you have on Kingston West."
Just before 'Violet' could deliver her lines, though, he cut in, and added, "But first, something far more important", Arthur said, breaking character and going off script-because Alison was probably not having a difficult enough time as it was.
"There's this girl", he began. "Alison Blaire." Behind him there was a collective series of groans that Arthur either did not hear or did not care about. "Beautiful, highly talented, and infinitely creative, but with one flaw." As Arthur looked at Alison, it was almost appeared as though he really was talking to 'Violet.' "She won't give me the time of day, no matter what I seem to do. I would really enjoy the simple opportunity to get to know her, but she keeps denying me."
"Any idea as to how I might be able to persuade her to give me a chance, Violet?"
