log Who: Alison "Dazzler" Blaire and Davis "Slipstream" Cameron NPCs: -- When: Wednesday/Thursday May 27/28th, respectively Where: Alison is in England, Davis is in the future Australia What: Alison calls Davis because harassing him over journals just isn't the same she's worried. This takes place at about 11:00pm GMT, which is about 1:00pm Sydney local (GMT +10) Rating: G-ish
Alison cursed the time difference that prevented her from calling Davis any sooner. Normally she wouldn't have even worried about calling at such a late hour, knowing he was usually up to all hours - like her. He sounded grumpy towards her on the journals and Alison took that to mean he was genuinely exhausted. Instead of immediately calling, she waited until she could (factoring in for Davis sleeping in late.)
She paced Pete's apartment impatiently, much to his annoyance no doubt, while she waited for Davis to answer.
Davis mostly sounded snippy on the journals because he couldn't really see well. That was not conducive to typing. It was better for him just to put the pillow over his head and ignore the world. Still, he picked up the phone. "'Ello." He just assumed it was Alison. She said she'd be calling.
Alison halted in her tracks once the phone was answered and she heard Davis' familiar, accented voice on the other end. "Davis!" Her voice was soft and cheerful. "Hey, how're you doing?" She was trying to gauge if now was a good time, depending on his answer.
"Alison! Good, other than the power thing. How're you?" At least he sounded upbeat. Hearing Alison could do that to a person.
The power thing.
Her stomach twisted. What did that mean? For all she knew, his powers freaked out and he had grown a prehensile tail - not that there was anything wrong with that.
"Things are..., well," she scratched at her eyebrow and paused. She had told Heather everything that happened, but hadn't mentioned anything to Davis. Yet. But not now. "Crazy," she supplied instead. "Good, but crazy," she said with a little laugh.
"You sound good," she did not hesitate to say. "Are you really okay?"
If he had a prehensile tail, he would be freaking right the hell out. Things weren't that dire.
"That's...good." He wasn't sure if it really was, but he wasn't going to press Alison. He wasn't the worrier. "Seriously, I'm okay. Sage just jumpstarted my powers, so they're really good, but I can't really quite sort of control them yet, like. So. I ended up in Japan, no big deal," he spilled out the truth quickly.
"What?" She was confused. "Hold on, hold on... Who the heck is Sage anyway? I haven't met her yet. And she can even do that? I just thought she was suppose to be some computer person."
"Sage, yeah, the new person. She's does, like, everything, I don't know, but I couldn't track the teleporter from Astana, and so I was like, hey, maybe if my powers were better and now they are, but my eyes are a little wonky because they're adjusting. No worries." See, he had everything under control.
After eying Pete, Alison crossed the room and entered the bedroom, closing the door over behind her. "What's she like?" She asked, her voice a harsh whisper. "What do you mean everything?
"Dude, Davis," she continue, her voice slightly strained. Alison was worried. "I'm not going to lecture you, you do what you feel you gotta, but...c'mon." She frowned deeply.
"C'mon what? I already got the lecture from my sister, mate, I don't need it from you. The arena isn't going to find itself," he pointed out bluntly.
Alison sighed deeply on the other end, sinking down onto Pete's always unmade bed. "I know, I know...I just...care about you. What if something happened, is all?"
Davis didn't actually enjoy making people worry. He just didn't think about other people when he did something most of the time. "I know it was a risk, but that doesn't mean it's not worth it."
"All I'm saying is you should have told someone before you did, whatever it was, because you're okay right now, but what if something did happen. Seriously, Davis. I'm being serious. Something bad, really bad, could have happened. What if you teleported into the middle of the ocean and no one had known?" Alison swallowed, she sounded like a broken record. "I'd be very sad."
"I'd be sad, too. But Sage knew." Seriously, there was a reason he didn't tell anyone else. They would have tried to stop him, especially Heather. "I had to do it, Alison, and you guys probably would have told me to stop."
"'Sage knew'," she repeated back. "And who the hell is Sage? You trust her like that? You could have told me!"
"Why would I have told you?" Davis asked with real curiosity. Sure, he liked Alison and everything. But she was in England. And she didn't teleport. "She had to do it, and she did it. Calm down, mate."
"Because we're friends," she said simply. She should have thought about it more before she opened her mouth, because technically that made her a hypocrite.
"Or at least I thought we were friends." She sighed again. She was laying it on a little thick and she knew it and in turn felt bad.
"Alison, we are friends. Don't be ridiculous." He wasn't going to bring up the fact that she was keeping things from him. He knew that was her business, just like this was his. He was a bit mean, maybe, or at least shallow. "So calm down, seriously."
It was...different! Totally different! It didn't just involve her, it involved Pete too. Their privacy was necessary.
"I am calm," Alison conceded. "Just promise me, you'll be okay, okay?" Then in the same breath, she changed the topic of conversation. "Do you think you're going to the dance-thing?"
"I'm okay. I'll be okay." And he wasn't lying. He felt a lot better than he had at first. Sadly, probably still not up to going to a dance. "At this point? No, I don't think so."
"Aw, man, you're not going? You just like disappointing me," she teased. "I have good news though," Alison perked up slightly.
"Apparently," Davis replied with a grin, not that she could see. "Oh? Do tell!"
"I'm coming home after that." It was exciting news. Talking to Davis made Alison realize just how much she missed being there in Australia with her favorite surf-buddy.
"Brilliant. I'll make you a homecoming treat!" He could at least do something nice!
"Yeah? You are? Cookies? I'm sad though, you're not going to be at the dance. I wanted to dance with you." She stuck out her tongue.
"There will be other dances," he promised. "And if you want cookies, you can have them!"
"I'm going to hold you to that." Alison yawned and stretched back onto the bed. "What time is it there?"
"Afternoon..." He poked his head up and opened his eyes to check the clock. "About one. There?" It was good that they could slip back into easy conversation.
Yes it was. That's why they got a long so well. "Oh, I dunno, its like eleven...my time. Yesterday. I guess. You're in the future, Davis," Alison giggled.
Davis chuckled slightly. "I am pretty amazing." Because that was why he was in the future. Not time zones.
Alison 'tsked' at him, but laughed despite herself. "Yes. Yes you are." She yawned again, and rolled over onto her side. "I think I should go to bed," she mumbled. "I just wanted to make sure you were okay and not broken."
"I don't break easy," he assured her. "Now get your beauty sleep. I'll see you when you're back."
"Alright, okay," she said and made kiss noises over the phone at him. "I'll see you soon. Hearts. Be safe and stay out of trouble," she warned, before saying goodbye and hanging up the phone.
