Subject: Challenge Evaluation
Unity Division,
I know that yesterday was a rough day for all of you. I know some of you are likely upset by the team performance as well.
I've evaluated the recording of your challenge. I believe you all know, individually, where you stepped up or where you fell short. I don't think you need me to sit and outline it all for you. With the last challenge of the year over, this means that our team meetings also come to an end. I do want to share something with you that I hope you'll think about.
I know many of you aren't looking for a career in the military, and I understand that. I do feel that what the military has taught me is this:
Your life isn't going to come as a series of commands from someone in a higher-rank than you. A lot of your decisions will come from you and your ability to think through a situation. It's one thing to train for a challenge, but it's another to act when the challenge actually comes. You can study for every test and do as many pushups as you think will be enough, but if you can't act while in the field, then none of that studying nor that training has done you any good. As out there as many of these challenges may seem, the core principles are there.
No, this last training challenge wasn't all that great, but there's something to be learned from it. You're smart, capable students and most of you are graduating this year. You won't have training challenges when you leave here, but you're going to take what you learned here with you. It's up to you to decide what you've learned and how to apply it into your life.
Remember that this isn't the end of everything, but every experience we have in this life is something we can get a lesson from. I know that many of you are going to do great when you leave here and move on to do good for the world around you in your own way. Just remember that you have the ability to change the world and make it a better place, but that depends on your ability to act.
There was this great man I knew and he said that success is not final and failure isn't fatal. It's the courage to continue that counts the most.
I know I said we have no more meetings for the rest of the school year, but I would like for us to meet one more time. I'll provide the food, you come, and we'll say goodbye to those who are graduating.
Let's not end this year on a bad note. You're a team with a lot of potential both together and individually. You tried, you failed, but it's not over.
Regards,
Capt. Steve Rogers
