Pietro nodded to the bearded guard. Fifteen minutes was plenty of time, in his mind, and he didn't plan on staying there longer than two but he let Jane have her time. Even it meant having to wait... which he hated doing. This was all a bigger deal than he had anticipated and his attitude toward the girl had shifted. Slightly.
He allowed her to go into the room first and then followed. Her reaction made her level of concern clear and he moved by her, pausing momentarily by her side as if he were going to say something, but continued and stopped close to the foot of the bed. There was nothing to see and yet everything that the eye could see made it clear that this was worse than he'd thought. He'd read the article about the explosion once he'd learned Victor was in the hospital because of it, but he held onto the idea that it wouldn't be so bad.
He'd seen all he needed to see and there was nothing he wished to say to his unconscious friend. Friend. The word stuck in his head as he moved to the back of the room to wait for Jane to spend her fifteen minutes how she liked. He mulled over the term and he finally decided it felt right. Maybe he was capable of making friends like Wanda had been saying ever since they'd been uprooted from Romania and brought here. Satisfied with his new understanding, he decided that he would continue to be Victor's friend. He didn't know what all that entailed but he didn't think it mattered at that moment.
