Nara rapped her knuckles on the door frame to the storage shed, blinking slowly as her eyes adjusted to the shadows within. The outer screen door was locked---if you called a few measly pins little thicker than a paperclip 'locked'---but she could hear someone in there rooting around, probably making a mess of things.
"Hey," she called sharply, and the rattling suddenly stopped. A human figure stood frozen in one of the corners, the white of its eyes staring back at her. "You. I need my sign." Nara jerked her head sideways toward where she knew the sign lay just inside the door, and the metal tips on her plaits clinked together with the movement.
The figure wavered uncertainly, and Nara gave an exasperated sigh and slapped her palm against the door frame. "Anytime now. Or would you rather I knock down this door and strangle you on the way out?" she drawled.
"Move back," a husky voice called. Nara returned the request with a sarcastic bow and an exaggerated step backwards. The lock clicked and the door opened a few inches, and after a moment a hand darted out to lean the sign against the side of the shed before retreating back inside.
"Took you long enough," Nara muttered before swiping up the sign and stalking off towards the edge of the reservoir. It was busy today, far busier than it had been even last month now that the air was warming up. The Atlantean studiously ignored any glances thrown her way as she approached the low wrought-iron fence that encircled the water and hooked her sign over the top of it. The bottom of the sign had to be attached to the fence as well, and Nara knelt as she threaded a flexible metal lock through the bars.
