Scott's old muscle car sat quietly out of sight from the road, dust on the sides after bringing it into the old quarry. Far enough away from homes and large enough to not bring any attention, one could practice more devastating powers in the open without really running the risk of drawing unwanted attention. He liked this place. It held a lot of small memories, and those were the ones that carried the most importance to him, these days. The threat of imprisonment had cast everything in a new light, and it wasn't the big decisions that stuck with him but the small ones.
He'd been so focused on the X-Men and on building something, so reluctant to let anyone else in on the thought process, and so driven, that he'd effectively pushed away Remy and Laura, and others. He couldn't afford to push his brother away. If anything, he should have let someone else fight the fight, and focused entirely on building a new relationship with his brother.
Well, better late than never. The looming shadow of the MRA made that choice even more pertinent. "Some of us come out here to practice, to work things out, to let loose and just to have some privacy. If not in the quarry than in the woods up the hill. It's even a makeout place," Scott admitted with a small grin.
"But it's big. That's the important thing here. You can really give your powers a place to breathe. It doesn't matter if you have much control, because there's room to work on it."
Scott removed his glasses and rubbed his eyes, fighting a typical migraine from the pressure his always-on power caused. Then he turned to face the steep wall and opened them. Red optic beams blasted across the open air, a slight ionization causing the hairs on his arm to rise as the optic blasts slammed into the wall, punching a hole and causing rocks to slide down from on high. He knew he could do more if he pushed, but that was too much even for the quarry.
Scott slid the visor back on and turned to look at Alex.
