Rating: PG-13
With his jumpsuit unzipped and rolled to the waist Dominik was in the middle of doing push ups during their allotted outdoor recreation time, eyes watching the guards and noting the timing of when they changed over. It was pretty routine, clockwork even, and Dominik was starting to be able to set the time by their movements.
The collar was thick, heavy and sometimes in the dead of the night it felt like it was choking him. It was impossible, Dominik knew that, but it didn't stop the feeling from crawling over him, sitting on his chest and pretty much making every breath harder than it should be.
He swapped hands, easing his other arm across his back as he simply lowered his weight and lifted it back on one hand alone, feeling the burn across his arms and along his forearm. In the past he would have been able to feel the earth beneath his fingers, but now, thanks to the collar, he felt nothing. Sweat pooled in the hollow of his neck and trickled past the tanktop, irritating the broken and bruised skin from where the tasers had bit in, but it was easy enough to ignore as Dominik lost himself in exercise.
Meditation was doing jack for his temper so he figured exercising would go a long way to keeping him from doing something stupid. It was bad enough he had let the smart remarks slip off his tongue like water off a duck's back, but Dominik wasn't exactly the type to sit idly by and let himself be pushed around.
He pushed a breath out and then rocked back up onto his toes, hunched and fingers lost in his hair as he combed long fingers through the strands restlessly. He wet his lower lip and lifted his head, eyes dark and gaze intent. The guards were chit chatting and occasionally shooting a look Dominik's way, but instead of looking away the Avalanche met their gaze and went one step further, he smirked. Fuck them if they thought he was going to let them see how much this whole thing was sucking.
Dominik swallowed and turned his head, gaze sweeping over the other mutants that had found themselves in the same unfortunate position at him. And for a moment he was sure he was going crazy because he'd seen what looked like a very blonde version of one William Kaplan. That was totally the prison getting the better of him, Billy wasn't here and even if he was he wasn't blonde. That much Dominik knew for certain.
Slowly but surely Dominik unfurled himself and rose to his feet, turning his head to watch the guards near the walls. It never hurt to be aware of your surroundings or the movement of the people in charge, especially if you intended to get the hell out of dodge. And Dominik did, come hell or high water.
"What are you looking at?" One of the guards yelled.
"Nothing," Dominik answered with a shake of his head. "Well unless you count your ugly mug."
That drew the guard out of his position and he strode across to where Dominik was stood, less than an inch separating the two. "I bet you think you're real smart don't you?"
The Greek pursed his lips and shrugged his shoulders. "Just saying things how I see them."
And that caused the guard's lips to thin and he looked as though he was tempted to say or do something but a holler from another guard drew his attention away. "You're lucky, kid. Real lucky." At this point angry guard number three marched away, leaving Dominik to watch his parting back.
"Oh yeah," Dominik drawled with a roll of his eyes. "I'm real lucky." It might not be much, but it was good to know that you could if you wanted get under their skin. They might be guards, but they were still only human and as such had weaknesses that could be preyed on.
He soon busied himself with another form of exercise, filing away his observations.
