Of all things it took to stop Sabretooth from maiming a target, no one ever expected words alone could do it. The man, upon hearing Logan’s voice – and surely to the amazement of Kurt – slowed his sprint immediately. By the time he came to a complete stop, he stood mere inches away from the night crawler. With one step forward, the feral could have brushed against the other man with his wide, muscular chest.
He took heavy breaths, and kept his back to the Canadian and his Cajun partner. “…an’ who’s gonna kill me? You, Shortstop? Heh, you been singin’ that song for years now, an’ yet… Here I am. Ready t’kick yer’ ass when you wanna try it again. And again, and again. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you were a glutton for punishment, Runt.”
Victor didn’t vocalize it, but his actions announced his surrender. He retracted his onyx colored claws, and sighed with disappointment as he finally turned to face the other two men. His eyes peered to Gambit first. “Aw… Why th’ long face, Croissant? Thought you’d be all smiles bumpin’ into an ol’ friend like me.” The man sure did know what to say to push the buttons of those around him. “Too bad… Figured we could catch up after I had a little shuteye. But ya’ had to go an’ fuck that up, too!”
Still, the feral knew that if these three men were here, more of the X-Men were on the way. His body still ached beyond a threshold of pain even he cared to tolerate, and his healing factor begged his subconscious to lie down and rest. In spite of what he said to Kurt mere moments ago – how no one would possibly reason with a mutant like him – Victor decided to test the merit of that theory.
“…So… Ya’ got th’ Big Bad Wolf in a corner. Now what? Gonna make me kill all of ya’ before the rest of the Little Rascals make it here?” He then let his eyes leap to each male intermittently, as if speaking to each independently. “Or are ya’ gonna actually look me in th’ eye, get over yer’ little beef you got with me, and believe when I say that I didn’t run all th' way here to ruffle any feathers?”
He coiled one of his arms over his bare abdomen, and continued. “You may think I’m bad news… But what’s waitin’ for all mutants around th’ bend is worse.” Then, he settled his eyes onto Logan. “Much worse.”
