Re: Warning: Incoming Food Porn
This question made Ragnar smile, as did the prospect of being able to purchase as much of this 'beef' as was possible. How he'd get the Imperials to pay for such a thing was a concern for another time.
"Russ, Lerman Russ is our father, the fountainhead of the Wolves. One of the 20 Primarchs created from His own body by the Emperor to be His warrior generals and commanders of His armies. The difference between a Primarch and a mere marine is as much a difference between me and a mortal child. But legend tells how the Dark Gods, fearing the Emperor's son's stole them and scattered them across the Sea of Stars. Russ came to Fenris and grew to be a mighty Jarl, lord of the world. The Emperor hearing of his many feats and wisdom came to Fenris recognising the spoor of one of his missing sons and there he challenged Russ."
"They would have an eating and drinking competion, tests of strength and hunts, if Russ lost he would serve the Emperor. The High Jarl lost, although he bore the Emperor no ill will. It is from Russ that our genetic strength flows, each of us bares organs that were cultivated using Russ's code. This was millenia ago, long before my time during the Great Crusade and Russ lead the the Wolves out into the stars to slay the enemies of the Emperor and bring unity to the scattered worlds of Humanity. It is a time of legends, of giants, all are dead from that time save one, Bjorn our oldest and most revered Ancient. He was Russ's Equerry and he still offers wisdom to our Jarl's even now.
Then came the Fall, the Heresy and the Emperors grand design was nearly destroyed by the betrayal of his most loyal son, the Primarch Horus and eight others who's names I shall not speak here. After the traitors defeat, Russ stayed with us but, as the story goes, from one who was there to watch it, Russ left us, swearing to return for the Wolftime. The final battle against the darkness."
Ragnar had a long off look in his eyes as he told Bobby a grossly truncated version of the history of the Wolves. "In a way we're all his Son's, inheritors of Russ's legacy. Its something to strive for, to reach for."
