They had fun. Steve smirked at both Jon's candidness and Eva's ability to make fun of it so quickly. It was probably the fastest way to tell if a team was actually cohesive, being able to poke fun at each other.
When Eva mentioned a spare room, Captain America wore a grateful expression, a change of scenery and a new mission had been exactly what the doctor had ordered. Dr. Steven Rogers MD. When her hand touched his arm Steve felt more than accepted, he felt cared for. His thoughts were lost for a moment in the bright lights inside Eva's eyes. Had he just met this woman or was she an old friend welcoming him back to a place he'd simply forgotten about?
After Officers Bishop and Worthington entered the room, Steve moved to shake both of their hands - memories of the Chitauri attack and the first time they'd met fresh in his mind. "Detectives." Steve greeted both of them, "we need to stop meeting under these circumstances." Warren’s wings were as captivating as he'd remembered, as was Luke's sheer size and contagious smile. "I heard about Professor Logan's arrest, thought I could help." Steve answered the British man, "And let's just say I have my doubts about the city's intentions."
"And we'll take it." Forge chimed in about the help of Captain America, "you guys sniff anything out?" Jon asked the gumshoes.
Warren gave Eva one last intense gaze, then turned his attention to the wily Native. "It seems Steve was correct. That bastion of law and order, otherwise known as the NSPD, will not let a couple of city boys," Angel used a generous set of quotation fingers on city boys, so generous his wings had even gotten involved, "have access to the investigation because they do not believe we would be impartial." Warren explained and his face made crystal clear the amount of contempt he held for that statement. "Mostly, we just wanted to know the names of the witnesses that placed Logan at the scene..." Warren shared, "but we can simply have another chat with Lochlan - he knew most of the employees and several of the people there." Including the victim, at least in passing.
"Maybe I can help with that." Steve said, an eagerness in his voice was present that even he wasn't aware of until after he'd spoken. "The police might be more forthcoming with me because I'm not-"
"A mutant." Warren interrupted.
"Well, yes. But I was going to say affiliated with the school." Steve finished, "and yeah, I don't like it either but this entire thing is going to be turned into a debate about mutants. And no, it's not fair. But that's part of the reason I'm here." Steve himself was born a month before women were even allowed to vote there, you didn't need to lecture him on inequality. "I'll head over to the police station next." Steve told Eva, "see if I can get those names and anything else they might have. Wouldn't mind a co-pilot, though." He confessed, "It's not a very big town, but I don't know much about it."
