"Everything but her makeup," besides camouflage of course, "that she learned on the internet." Forge teased when he entered the office and got his first up close look at Captain America... cleaning a small plate he knew to be from the home economics room. He was used to them being left by his desk when he dosed off in his chair and awoke to the surprise of baked goods. Those were good surprises. "Good, you've already had her cooking." Jon added with a smirk that hopefully told the pair he'd planned on that happening.
The Native took a deep breath and moved closer to Captain Rogers, he extended his hand - a reverse for Forge. Normally, he waited for someone else to greet him, but Steve had more than earned the former soldier's respect... and mild hero worship. "Good to finally meet you, Captain."
"Likewise, sir." Steve had thanked Eva for allowing him to hand her his plate, just after he'd started to describe Bruce's idea of a home cooked meal - a story he planned to finish later. He'd grabbed the older (yet technically younger) man's hand and before the shake was over realized something was amiss.
"Don't worry, Captain." Forge started with a wry smile on his face. "It's not my original hand, leg either." His eyes dropped to his left leg for just a moment. "I would have kept them, but the jungle thought otherwise." And maybe his friends on the other side, but Steve probably wasn't right for that conversation.
Captain America had nodded in understanding, a more serious expression showing across his face. "Everybody leaves something over there." Steve offered, but the words felt more like a confession out loud than they'd sounded in his head. "They're impressive." He quickly changed the subject before either of them thought too much about what he'd said.
"Made 'em myself." Jon bragged while he formed a fist with his gloved robotic hand. "But you didn't come here for that." His eyes locked with Eva's for a moment, mostly to anchor him back to reality. Jon could have killed the rest of the afternoon showing off his inventions to Captain America... and Eva probably knew it. "How much have you filled him in - did you get to the camera footage?"
"Cameras?" Steve interjected and turned thoughtfully to Eva. "At the club?"
"No, here." Forge continued, clearly she hadn't gotten that far. "We can't find any record of Logan coming back last night, and trust me... nobody gets in here without me knowing." Jon boasted a bit, but kept his tone even to hide that fact.
Captain America placed his hands on his hips and gave careful thought to the information Jon had just shared. "That's..." Too perfect. He glanced back to Eva and wondered if she felt the same way he did. "That feeling in my stomach just got worse." And he wasn't talking about the pie. "There would be no reason for Professor Logan to delete the video," if he even could - which he had a feeling here it would probably be hard to tamper with things like that. "It doesn't prove his innocence any more than if he'd come home that night right after the murder would’ve proved he was guilty. It just means whoever is behind this has a greater reach than I first thought."
"Exactly." Jon seconded what Steve had just said, proud that the other man put it together as quickly as Eva and Jon had earlier. "You planning on sticking around?" Forge asked, unburdened by politeness.
"Yeah..." Steve started a bit surprised by the left turn the conversation had taken. "I'd planned on getting a hotel."
"That's idiotic." Jon barked and then remembered who he was talking to. "Sorry, what I meant to say was, we have plenty of room here, right Eva?" He tossed the ball to Astrape and hoped she didn't look a gift American Hero in the mouth.
"Sure." Captain America answered quickly and then noticed he'd forgotten to clear it passed the person in charge. "I mean, if you'll have me, Eva?" Steve asked Eva and hoped their first fifteen minutes together had proven enough for her to consider it.
