Her father took a drink of her frozen latte and she smiled at his efforts. Dom mixed them in the lounge for her most mornings. She and Weenie had parallel tastes. "Good." Eva was still heeding his advice on her breathing when she heard Jimmy ask Troy about his coffee.
"I only had a few sips," he said, eyes shifting uncomfortably. He was, however, feeling a head high similar to Da'Bomb. He let Jimmy take his drink anyway, though, because they were close and the presence of Nate was throwing Troy off his game. He couldn't really focus. Usually the spot didn't cause this much drama in his bodily systems.
When the roof began to move, Zap turned and looked up behind her. "Tree," she confirmed, as if he were a chimp learning ASL. She formed a hard line with her mouth to prevent the smirk that wanted loose, and her eyes met Forge's. "See?" she reasoned. The guy was good; he was going to be a help. Or a really big problem, she thought suddenly, because her neck was doing the twitching thing that made her head tilt. She shut her eyes and focused again on breathing. Jimmy had reeled Nate back inside so he didn't get Ichabod-Craned, and she grinned through closed eyes as she keyed in on the Jurassic Park reference. "Woman inherits the earth..." she said just loudly enough.
"Did you all perform a massive blood magic spell out here? What happened?"
Now she looked at Forge with a snap of her already-jittery neck muscles. Slowly, her head turned back and tilted to meet Nathaniel's gaze. "Not on purpose," Eva said seriously.
Troy blinked a few times, trying to make sure he'd heard correctly, because honestly his hearing was fading in and out. He looked behind Nate's head to meet Jimmy's eyes and his head cocked back. "We're not allowed to say," Troy voiced the fact loudly next to Nate, not fully on purpose. The tree was at 11 o'clock, and the land rover slowed to a stop once it hit 9. The massive red cedar loomed taller and swelled thicker than the last two years combined. "It's awake."
Zap could feel the energy too, but wasn't sure it was the same sensation as Troy. Jimmy's knee was thumping against the back of her seat, though, and she threw her arm back and held his forearm. Before she would exit the vehicle, she fully intended to get her shit straight. Mystery, magic, men. That was the correct order for her priorities. Now she just needed to drink in some moon beams. Her hand had slid to Jimmy's and she was squeezing him for strength.
